I dont see why so many people seem not to rate him at all.. Whenever i watch him he seems to play with far more purpose then anything we put on the wing and call a winger.

Ofcourse he is going to be overpriced but now is not the time for penny pinching.

Not sure about this one, looks decent enough without being spectacular but don't want him here all the same, if he signed I know I will eat my words as he will probably bring more to the team then the current wide men but it just don't excite me.

Is he really an upgrade on the greedy bastard that is Nasri??? :? I think you'll find the answer is a resounding NO... so we shouldn't even be thinking of buying him..

I ask because I really haven't paid too much attention to Downing over the years.

Thinking about it, this may be because he is shit.

£15m for a guy who can't get in a crap England team seems a lot of cash imo.

Is he an upgrade on Arshavin, Bendtner or Walcott who have played on the flanks? Answer is yes.

Please don't put Nasri up there on a pedestal, he ain't deserved that praise.

When you put it like that then I agree with you, I'm not putting Nasri on a pedestal either, just making a comparison... but yes, Downing is better than the 3 you've mentioned..

The thing with players like Downing is while they don't capture the imagination they are team players, we are not a team, we are a collection of ball players put together in the hope of Gelling and its failed as we got players not playing where they want to play.

With Downing you know he would come to play on a flank and provide service for those that are supposed to be spectacular, United have their stars but they also have their team players, I'm warming to the idea.

I'd rather we had bid for Ashley Young, but we DO need proper wide players and signing Downing could promote a faster, counter attacking style of play rather than tippy tappy and that can only be a good thing!
However, Sky are reporting that Downing prefers a move to Liverpool still......so another player who doesn't want to come here, not surprising when you have one club showing lots of ambition........ and Arsenal!!

Nasri doesn't want to play for Arsenal, fuck him off now!
