SSN - Arsenal make contact over Downing

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

He would not be my first choice but would be happy if Rosicky could be part of the deal (mind you, after his performance in the CC final I am sure McLeish thinks he's as useless as most Arsenal fans believe). SSN reporting Dowling would still rather go to Liverpool though - a team that has not won the league for over 20 years. How we have fallen.

He would be pretty good at Liverpool, Carroll would love him.

Ofcourse he is going to be overpriced but now is not the time for penny pinching.
Is he really an upgrade on the greedy bastard that is Nasri??? :? I think you'll find the answer is a resounding NO... so we shouldn't even be thinking of buying him..
Different kinds of players tbh.. clearly nasri is the better footballer but downing is effective (at least most of the times I've seen him).

When not in the kind of form of the first half of last season Nasri is about as effective as my left nut. Besides, i thought the thread was about what we think of downing not what do we think of downing assuming that he is a replacement for nasri?

I think at this stage of the summer, it's actually important that we're just seen to be spending big, currently it looks like Arsenal are a failing, selling club. When the better players at a club are looking to leave, it's telling you something. Also, remember RVP and Walcott will have 1 year left on their contracts at the end of this coming season so this all happens again next year!

Not in the cl yet there's the small matter of a playoff to come....wenger breeds losers now and that mentality is firmly within the club

i'll give him a chance, but again it's not position we need filling :banghead: :banghead:

nothing against Gervinho, Downing, etc, etc - but we need another keeper and at least 3 more defenders

scousers offered £15m for him, we probably offered £15.1m, after all, wenger is working nite and day trying to sign new players :banghead: :banghead: . im sure he will also be offered an extra £5.50 a week, to convince him to come to the emirates.

To be fair our wide players were as weak as our centre backs last year.

Seems a very strange signing for your lot to go for, can't see what he'll offer you at all tbh

that's because Wenger is playing Bentdner, Arshavin and Walcott out of fucking position. True we don't have any decent wide players, but surely the defence has to be sorted first

i can't watch another season of Kos, Djourou, Squilliaci getting robbed at set pieces and corners - every week you can already see what's going to happen. And how long will it be before chesney confidence get's shot to pieces because of the crap in front of him
