He has something like a 22m buy out clause, would he want to go to Arsenal? Buy Mata and guaranteed, inside 2-3 years Barca or Madrid will come in for him. Yet again we would be buying youth with potential.....not an uncommon thing at Arsenal!
I'm not saying we should all be delighted if we got Downing, but if he came in along with 3 or 4 others then overall he could be a decent signing.
Agreed TC but that tightwad cheapskate delusional twat wenger has saod in his most recent interview (on .com) that he is loooking for "1 or maybe 2 more"...

And so WE ARE TRULY FUCKED FOR YET ANOTHER SEASON....   :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :wailer: :banghead:

For about 6-8 million.

Anything into double figures is fucking ridiculous.

And if it goes through, I'm fucking o-u-t and off to support Barnet for the forseeable.

I am 100% in agreement with you there buddy - all last week I was taking the piss outof my scouse supporting buddies about their persuit of the one trick pony that is downing and now we offer 18m for him    I am not slating the guy as such but he has a woeful lack of pace for a winger and the lack of pace to our counter attacks in recent seasons is killing us imo. There is no doubt that he can cross a ball very well but as has already been pointed out, we have no target man for him to cross it too  For this signing to work we would def need to sign benzema or some other strong penalty area centre forward and I would be shocked if that happens (and if wenger see's bendtner as that target man and 1st choice next season then I am going to support the scum  )

For me mata for 4m more makes far far more sense - the guy is recognised as a top talent by the big clubs across europe plus he would bring pace and goals to our team. I know I keep making the point but we dont just need signings......we need 1 or 2 marquis signings. If we seriously want to shake this selling club/feeder club image then we need to be able to convince top players who are coveted by other clubs to join us and mata is such a player

On a side note would signing downing signal the end of arshavin's career with us or signal the end of wenger playing the little russian out of position on the wing ? For me if you play downing in your team then you play him on the left wing in a 4-4-2 only and you would wonder where that would leave arshavin even if cesc and nasri depart

K.J. Please stop talking about pelvic thrusts ,as I have consumed several Lagers, and consequently may need to venture out and seek female company in a local hostelry off dubious repute!!!

Sorry mate, but I think that he would be better than Walcott, whose only asset seems to be pace.

To be honest, reports are that we have only enquired about the player, we've not made an offer. I'm hoping that this is actually a game we are playing with Liverpool to get them to panic and do everything to buy him, taking their attention away from our real target of Mata, who reports are saying Liverpool are keen on also.

This could be a clever game we are playing to get the scousers to spunk their transfer budget taking them out of the running for any of our targets.

Or I could be completely wrong and our club has lost their fucking minds :x

he is a better winger than theo, but i doubt the stats show they are far apart, 18M for downing would be a travesty, you cannot justify that money on a player who is so average. Leave him for kenny.

I want some spirited brits for us, but in crucial positions like CB and Midfield, in attack? no thanks.

I wouldn't really believe Sky Sports, their 'sources' seem to be the tea lady. How the hell do they know Downing prefers Liverpool when we seemingly only enquired last night or today? How odd.

I would like him at Arsenal, I said this earlier in the summer. He's a wonderful footballer and very direct. But I doubt it will happen.

Article about how Downing might be used at Liverpool, who have a lot of central midfielders.
