£82m spent on Downing, Adam, Carroll and Henderson!

Almost makes me grateful for Wenger's no-spend policy!

I wouldn't be too quick to take the piss outa the Mousers, mate. Individually those players may not set the football world alight but put together in the right system they may end up being genius signings. I can see Carroll in particular thriving on the supply he will get from Adam.

And Downing was supplied to feed Carroll so all but Henderson are great signings and have improved them, that's what its all about, improvement, they can't be knocked.

We are more concerned about keeping players that fail us rather then looking to improve.

At least we got a free run on Mata now, will we go for it? Doubt it.

I see your point but still don't think these players are anywhere near good enough to take the mousers where they aim to be. I can't see them finishing top 4 in all honesty, their squad is just not good enough. Carroll and Downing are run of the mill players imo (still room for improvement for Carroll though) so I'm not worried by their signings. I'd be furious had it been us spunking so much money on them.

Add them to the list of Heskey, Crouch, Konchesky, Keane and probably a bunch of others I've forgotten.

I can't see King Kenny lasting the season...the positive atmosphere around the club when he was appointed got him through the first months of the job but the truth will come out this year.

With Downing you know he would come to play on a flank and provide service for those that are supposed to be spectacular, United have their stars but they also have their team players, I'm warming to the idea.
Good Point, Gio Silva case in point. I think we need 2/3 players like this generally in the team. Even though Clicy was s***t last season, it tooks ages for Nasri to provide any cover when required. It's not pretty but you need these guys when your 4-0 up away from home..!!!! :x

I think Mr. Kenny there has some pretty good footballing management skills. He turned Liverpool's season around and I don't think that was merely cuz of his "aura". He clearly has a vision for how the team is going to play and has gone out and invested in English players that will suit his English style. Given time the players who fit into his system might really thrive. I think that's a better way of doing things than turning centre forwards into wingers, centre mids into wingers, etc... *cough*

Having said that, if this team doesn't amount up to expectations in a year or two, there will be serious anarchy at Anfield having seen so much cash splashed on a host of mediocre players.

Agree with most about Downing - super average. Never ever 20M, not even in todays market.

If they don't get far with this team, I can't see the Liverpool owners putting anymore money in for it to be blown on players like that.

Bit of a Redknapp style "scatter gun" spree from Dalglish I think. Buy loads of players in the hope that it all works out. Suprised he hasn't signed any 35 year old ex World Cup stars yet.
