Banners for the San Siro

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The reason that national flags have been banned is because it causes conflict, and some fans have been upset at the waving of certain countries' colours.

As a club statement in that link above says "Arsenal as a club prides itself on being inclusive with respect to all nationalities, cultural and ethnic groups"

It started with the waving of a turkish cypriot flag, and some fans who have a greek cypriot heritage, including myself, were not happy. cyprus and turkey have been in a political crisis since 1974 when turkey invaded the northen part of cyprus. to be flying a flag of that sort when a country is not politically stable in my mind is wrong, and pisses off the greek cypriots who feel that they should not be in OUR country.
SO YOU'RE TO BLAME THEN!!

SERIOUSLY THOUGH, I'M SORRY IF THIS ANNOYS YOU BUT HOW THE HELL CAN SOMEONE HAVING A DIFFERENT NATION FLAG AT THE GROUND - PROVIDING THAT THERE ISN'T A DISTASTEFUL SLOGAN WRITTEN ON IT - BE UPSETTING TO ANYONE? :?

IF YOU WANT TO DEBATE POLITICS WITH YOUR ENEMIES, DO IT ELSEWHERE!! FOR THE LOVE OF JUDAS H. PRIEST, YOU'RE AT THE GROUND TO WATCH THE FOOTBALL AND YOU ARE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE ARSENAL FANS. SURELY THAT'S WHAT REALLY MATTERS? NOT SOME PAROCHIAL BATTLE TAKING PLACE MILES AWAY THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SUPPORTING ARSENAL?

NOW, BECAUSE OF THOSE COMPLAINTS THE MINORITY HAVE GOT THEIR WAY - AS PER USUAL - AND NO-ONE CAN BRING IN FLAGS!! HOW FAIR IS THAT?
No im not the one to blame, but how can you justify a flag that symbolises the fact that people were taken from their homes and tortured and killed. cyprus is a politically unstable country, and the fact that the turks have still not given the land back, that rightfully belongs to us, is not correct. to publically flaunt this in a place where thousands of people can see it is not on. some of my family are still missing from 1974, and the likelyhood is that they have been killed. i feel very passionate about the situation and think what you like but i believe arsenal have made the right decision.
DEMZY, I TRUELY SYMPATHISE IF YOU HAVE LOST FAMILY IN THAT STRUGGLE. I DON'T IN ANY WAY WANT TO BELITTLE THAT WHOLE SITUATION OR EVEN YOU, BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT ACTION LEAD TO A BAN ON ALL FLAGS AND GIVES CARTE BLANCHE FOR ANYONE TO PROTEST ABOUT ANYTHING THEY DON'T AGREE WITH. AS HAS ALREADY BEEN POINTED OUT, IT IS HAVING THE EFFECT OF SANATISING THE WHOLE FOOTBALL EXPERIENCE. AND WHERE DOES IT ALL STOP?

NOW IF YOU WANTED TO CONFRONT THE GUY HOLDING THAT FLAG OUTSIDE THE GROUND AND EVEN PUNCH HIS LIGHTS OUT, THAT WOULD BE FINE BY ME. HOWEVER, THE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT WE ARE AT A FOOTBALL GROUND TO WATCH ARSENAL PLAY, HOPEFULLY WIN AND ENJOY OURSELVES, NOT TO CONDUCT AND PURSUE NATIONALISTIC AND POLITICAL GRUDGES.

WHEN IT COMES TO FOOTBALL WE ARE ALL GOONERS AND SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE SAME SIDE. IN MY OPINION, WE SHOULD TRY AND KEEP IT THAT WAY.

That is why I think the national flags should have nothing to do with Arsenal. All Gooners should only bring Arsenal and St George's Cross flags. Not some other flags that will make nationalistic statements.

....Leave him where he is. He's done naff all for Liverpool !!!

I think national flags should be allowed, but only if they are in some way linked to Arsenal i.e. at least mention Arsenal, gooners, pub etc. It should be a way of showing that you support Arsenal and come from xyz - not the other way round.....!
