best role for Theo

Do not think right wing is his best position.
Would like to see him more central but as a striker paired with RvP, not with RvP playing the Number 10 role because that does not suit RvP.
To me Theo is best when he can collect the ball to feet, run at top speed away from the defence and shoot, all in short order. The longer he has on the ball the less effective he is.
If by any chance Nasri stays and Theo is not chosen up front, would prefer Nasri wide right and try Theo wide left where he was good for England Under-21's.

Thing is Augie until he's had a run of games you can't say he wouldn't be a danger down the middle. I have to say that when faced with a 1 on 1, I've seen him put them away more times than he's missed.augie wrote:rodders999 wrote:Had a couple of great chances today that any clinical player with notions of being a striker would have buried. He shit his pants every time and skewed wide quite badly. No thanks.
And yet we have many Gooners who believe he is a centre forward![]()
To me it is another PV4/diaby situation where in that case they look physically similar whilst in this case theo has lightening speed like henry did but that is where the similarities end my friends so stop dreaming about theo being a centre forward cos he doesnt have the bottle, the natural strikers instinct or the intelligence to play that position

If Walcott spent a lot less time in OK magazine / telling the press how great he should be and a lot more time on the training pitch, working on his weaknesses, then he might (finally) fulfill his potential.
In my 30+ years following The Arsenal we've never had so many bottlers that can talk the talk but can't walk the walk

He has not fulfilled his potential, but lacking bottle is not one of his faults.Jumpers For Goalposts wrote:If Walcott spent a lot less time in OK magazine / telling the press how great he should be and a lot more time on the training pitch, working on his weaknesses, then he might (finally) fulfill his potential.

Theo's Best Position
If we ever had a system like we used in the past where Henry or Lundberg would run the back four ragged making diagonal timed runs he would be mustard but we no longer have the pace or the passing ability to support such a system.
He's also getting a bit old to join JLS so im stumped as to where he fits in !

Isnt that the crux of the matter though......does theo have the brains to see and time those diagonal runs ? Personally I dont believe that he has. For my mind to be an attacking player at the top level a player must have at least 2 out of football intelligence, outstanding technique or natural ability to be in the right place at the right time and I dont believe walcott has the required traits. People can complain about him not being given a chance up front and can argue that he is a good enough finisher (a point I cannot agree with and saturday emphasised that) but I do not hear anybody saying that he has the intelligence to play the position nor do I hear anybody saying that he will be a natural penalty area poacher which says it all for me......people want him to succeed but know he is not going to make it as a winger and so are looking for him to be tried out up front but if that doesnt work what other position are they gonna argue that he be tried in ?

Same old same old here, certain posters have their pet hates and cannot wait to get on a players back, they are then given an argument that said hated player is playing out of position but dismiss it out of hand because they KNOW IT ALL. Funny though that these haters defend arshavin and profess that he is played Out of position. Truth is.......they don't know it all no matter how protracted and dogged their argument because until said hated player is played in their preferred position no one knows ;) My own view on Walcott is that he is a half decent player and at times is clinical and puts in better crosses than he's given credit for, unfortunately we don't have a gerard/lampard type midfielder or an alan shearer type forward who time runs into the box and attack the ball. If we did we might just have someone to get on the end of a cross rather than try and pick out one player amongst five defenders, even beckham would struggle to pinpoint someone with those odds. Our players all hang about ten yards outside the area waiting to play tipy tappy again and prove to the world that we can have 70 per cent of the ball against manure ( but still lose, oh the injustice of it all) because stats like that win matches......right? Give theo a chance in his preferred position and for that matter arshavin too and see what they can do, if they don't produce then sell them to shitty next season :) But what do I know (fuck all was the cry) I have never played FM.

Re: Theo's Best Position
It is exactly that observation that makes me believe that given a run upfront he could do it. Last season there were countless times when I saw him dart in from the right, run along the line and hope that someone could thread a pass through just like Dennis to Henry/Freddie. And ok he fluffed a few the other day but then you could argue he finished very smartly against Malaysia and against the Geordies and against the Spuds etc etc.augie wrote:Herd wrote:If we ever had a system like we used in the past where Henry or Lundberg would run the back four ragged making diagonal timed runs he would be mustard but we no longer have the pace or the passing ability to support such a system.

All Owen ever did was look for a ball through or poach. Walcott could replicate that in my opinion
