Jay emanuel thomas to Ipswich - this is a weird 1 to me
JET Completed his transfer to Ipswich ton today and I would like to with him all the success in the world.
What I do not understand is that JET was our youth team captain and after watching him several times I along with mny others beleieved tht with his enormous physique and versatility he was on course to become a regular in the first team.
This is what Arsene said him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRWCY6u_ATE I have never heard him talk about such a player like this.
I heard that he had a slight attitude problem
Strange one!

How do you know it was good business when you dont even know the fee? We dont need money anyway so I couldnt careless about good business.
Again attitude problems, an ego that Wenger didnt want to control. Mugs himself off though by the way he hyped him so much in the above video.
Its hard to take anything Wenger says at all seriously. Anyway I would put it down to a mix between Wenger and the player why this didnt work.
I think again if he was afforded the chances Bendtner and Vela had, he would have made it.

Tall, strong, and quite skillfull, able to play across the front but usually to the right.
But lacked pace.
Never met him, but appeared at a distance to be undisciplined/cocky off the pitch.
Not that such a lifestyle has affected Wilshere getting into the team though.
One of those I would have liked to have been given some Premiership games to see what he could do before being sold, but like a few on this Forum I have previously expressed a hunch that he would end up a Championship player.
To be honest could not see him getting ahead of RvP, Walcott, Nasri or Gervinho, and by the sounds of his statement today, neither could he.

I saw him (on TV) make a few substitute appearences for Cardiff and he didn't even look good enough for them. At the quoted 1.1m I think it's good business.
I don't agree with the 'this is another example of Aw being a twat' comments. It's not unreasonable that a manager supports and encourages a young player but that, when that player doesn't develop as hoped, he sells him.
Also, from what I've seen, we've a number of young players who looked to have potential but who don't look like they'll be good enough for us (Randall, Cruise, Hoyte etc have gone already) and who should maybe be shipped out (Eastwood, Frimpong, Watt etc).
Like many, I've been disappointed with our youth development. Jack is a shining light, Gibbs may develop but where are the rest.

Admittedly I didn't see him play that often but whenever I did he looked pretty average.
I know he showed flashes of brilliance but he'll be 21 this year and never looked close to making the step up IMO.
Whenever I saw him play he always seemed to lumber around the pitch, no pace whatsoever. He was skillful in a kanu kind of way where he'd just get lucky with his touch, he never really appeared to have it under control fully.
And as others pointed out, he seemed to think he'd made it already when in reality there was a lot of hard work to be done.
He was never going to make it at arsenal so the sell on percentage, initial fee from Ipswich, and another player of the wage bill, is good business IMO.

That's an interesting point - I think Gibbs could have made it with a season out on loan and some better luck with injuries... I'm not sure he will now.SpanishJoe wrote:I saw him (on TV) make a few substitute appearences for Cardiff and he didn't even look good enough for them. At the quoted 1.1m I think it's good business.

I think Lansbury could make it, I think we should get him tied down to a new deal and send him back to Norwich on loan to get Premier League experience.
He's not the greatest technically but he can score goals, tackle, and more importantly he works damn hard for the team.
What would be an interesting report would be to isolate the cost of the clubs academy against the amount of revenue generated (including what it would likely have cost to buy the likes of Wilshire).
Because I don't think that the current academy crop is proving that starting junior development at the age of 10 is working for us right now. We all know about the freak that is La Masia but in general top flight European clubs are buying their juniors at 17-18 years of age and acting as a finishing school.
It may be that it is because this is the first bunch coming through where Wenger and his development ideas have owned the players development all the way from 10 years of age and it maybe that it takes a few years to get it right?
It would be interesting what is the best policy in terms of both economic cost/profit generated and also on field success generated by both models.

It's a bit sad that despite being a successful captain at youth level he never really got his chance. I'm sure he played midfield at youth, but up front on his rare 1st team appearances. Maybe he was too similar to diaby. Plenty of skill but lacks the football versitility wenger wants. Which begs the question why is diaby not at Lorient? Wish him well.
