Transfer Rumours Thread
I am in low spirits.
No Wenger signings to strengthen the defense
And there are only rumour about players like Samba, Mertesacker, Cahill or Jagielka...
If he really wants to strengthen the defense he would tried to sign top class players, bring them in at the start of pre-season and work with them with the rest of the squad.
I agree with Augie. I think we´ll end up with a Silvestre/Squillaci signing
I fear the worst for the upcoming season
Many, many stupid goals against us.

I'm really hoping this is all a waiting game.....
Bolton, Blackburn & Everton don't need to sell at the moment so could be holding out on the valuation.
They'll come a point this summer when they need the funds themselves to strengthen so could come down.
But I don't see the point of waiting the summer just to knock £3-5million off the asking price. It’s just typical of Wenger.
I know both Liverpool and the Mancs have maybe over spent on players but at least they've got the players they wanted. Wenger used to assess each players attributes right down to their mental ability and outlook. Now it seems with this summer he doesn't even know (or care!) who he wants in defence as long as the price suites. That to me is wrong.
If he wants Cahill or Jagielka then just get them!
I'm expecting at least one of the rumoured defenders.
I think Cesc has gone and a lot depends on this.
The flipside is we're waiting for the Barca to make the right bid. I think we'll strengthen when he goes plus I actually believe it will be more then one player and one that's not a replacement. Mata + another attacking wide midfielder or CM for example.
With Cesc going this could allow Nasri to play in the middle where he wants. This plus some clever signings off the back of Cesc leaving and having cleared out most of the dross could, COULD convince Nasri to stay.

I feared the worst from April / May when he made his usual rumblings ahead of the end of season / season ticket renewal period and nothing has changed my mind. Still not sure why anyone would trust what he says after 3 consecutive Summers of lies
Like you guys, I suspect there will be one more defender but it won't be Cahill or Jagielka - both £15m or higher and Wenger will not pay those prices.
He might make a low-ball offer for Dann if he suspects B'ham are desperate for cash. If that's not successful then it'll be the search for the new Koscielny - a lightweight not suited to the PL but available at Wengerprice.
He'll then say that he promised a busy window and that we have signed three players + Miyachi + returning injured players + returning loan players.....and that as promised two of those players were defenders in Jenkinson and "new Koscielny". We have many "internal options" in that position too with Miquel and Bartley.
We all know what's coming - roll on the Britannia stadium for more high class defending at set plays

Because they're two seperate things. He doesn't want to lose Cesc, and is not being forced to sell, therefore he feels that he can hold on for that long. The reason he is confident that he can hold on for a good price is that he has no intention of replacing Cesc, now or at the end of the window. If he does buy someone in another position, it's cos he feels that he can force another club's hand - seeing as will more than likely be another second division French player - and lower the price.flash gunner wrote:What i dont understand is by holding out till the end of the transfer window we will get our wanted players for less money. Yet holding Cesc till the end of the transfer window means we will get more cash out of Barca
How the fuck does that work? Wenger-nomics

I still think he is purposefully sabotaging his own future now, he will never admit that he is wrong and will never stop this little project of his. His main plan now is to pretend to have tried to sign players, hence the piss taking 10m bid for Jags, the stalling over the Cahill and Samba deals which now look unlikely to happen, the fake Downing bid, the haggling over Oxlade-Chamberlain, and whatever other stuff we don't yet know about.
He would rather walk away from the club at the end of the season and say he tried to make it work, he tried to sign players, but the clubs were unwilling to sell at a realistic price. He will walk away before the b**** have a proper chance of sacking him, because he wants everyone to think he walked out like a hero and dignified in defeat for once. The more people urge and demand he sort out the weakenesses, the more unlikely he is to do it, as he wants to be the one who has the last word, not the fans.
The tyrant has long since been lying to us. The league in 2008 would've been ours if we'dve signed one or two experienced players in Jan - this was the start of his defiance and tantrums. The summer of the same year before the 08/09 season, people urged him to sign Alonso or Barry, he signed neither and had one of, if not his worst season here. Jan 09, he signed Arshavin to somewhat appease fans and take the attention away from the DM weakness and buy him more time.
The summer of 2010, he signed two unproven players from abroad, as well as Chamakh for free because he didn't want to pay for him in Jan. Now all he has done is drag a deal out for an African nobody's ever heard of and sign a 19 year-old. He now hopes that the team fails, so he can walk away, or by some miracle they manage to win the FA Cup or League Cup which will again buy him more time, in which he will resume his project and buy spineless pussies.
The day he fucks off will be the day I get so fucked I'll have the worst hangover of my life.

1. No. AW will spin us the line about having 4 centre-backs plus Sagna / Jenkinson who can fill in at CB. He remains oblivious to our inability to defend corners / free-kicks and the same flaw will cost us again. The solution to our defensive problems last season is apparently to sell Clichy (probably no real loss) and recruit a League One defender.augie wrote:Rather than start another vanity thread (only mods are allowed do that) am just wondering what the fans feel will happen in the last 30+ days of this transfer window -
1. Do any of you still believe we will sign any 1 or 2 of samba/cahill/jageilka/mertesacker ?
2. Do ye believe that from this day we will spend more on transfers than we receive ?
3. Do (m)any of you believe that cesc and/or nasri will still be here on sept 1st
4. Does anybody believe that wenger will sign a new keeper ?
I know there is a lot of frustration and resignation at our lack of purchases but am wondering how deep those feelings run ? The cahill and/or samba deals were supposed to be certs a few weeks ago and now there is barely a whisper and surely after dragging out so long the chances of either are slim ?
2. If that happens I will find a hat and consume it.
3. Not sure. The way the club works now I wouldn't be surprised to see them both sold on deadline day and us fobbed off with "no time to get in a replacement" while the club pocket 50m or so.
4. If AW never replaced the incompetent cretins that are Flappy and Clownmunia then he won't bring someone in over Szczesny (who to be fair looks vastly better than either of those idiots). I fear for us if Szczesny gets hurt though.

I haven't felt this low - re: Arsenal for feckin' years...what is he (AW) doing..he builds a greaty side/s - a wonderful, entertaining TROPHY WINNING style of football, oversee's our move to a bigger (better revenue) ground... then goes on to fuck it all up....
I sincerely do NOT want to let my admiration, thanks and love for him turn into what is quickly becoming anger, loathing and a growing hatred..but he seem's intent on destroying all the good he has done.....he more or less admitted that he agreed with the general concensus about the weaknesses in the squad and said there would be 'a great deal of coming's and going's'. I don't call denilshyte going on loan and the sale of the wanky JET 'great goings'..though of course there's the eventual goings of fabregas and maybe nasri (mercenary whorecunt).....and who have we brought in? Two players..one youngster and one unknown(ish) quantity....

Think we will sign a cheap utility defender, Oxlade-Chamberlain and a couple of 16 year old prospects, but hope I am wrong and we sign Cahill.augie wrote:Rather than start another vanity thread (only mods are allowed do that) am just wondering what the fans feel will happen in the last 30+ days of this transfer window -

Sky Sports News: 5:29: Speculation: Spanish reports claim Arsenal and Spurs are both in talks over Valencia's Juan Mata, who would prefer a move to the Emirates.
Mata is top draw and totally suited to our style of attacking play.
