The Wenger Quote Thread.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

And when we're found wanting again he'll use the old chesnut of the age of the squad because once Cesc, Nasri, Squillaci etc go and we sign a couple of 17 year old 'wonderkids' again, the team will average 23 and he'll say give them time etc etc etc

Tow little gems this week from the bloke who is sliding further and further down the path of dementia

"We analysed it all again and you look at all the performance indexes from last season you will see we were very close. That is why my desire is so big to keep the whole squad together"

and

"There are two categories of club - those who travel with sweat and those who travel with petrol. We are those who travel with sweat."

on Thierry Henry’s return to Arsenal…
Arsene Wenger wrote:They say great clubs never die and it looks like great players never die.
But he's having a fucking good try at killing our Club.

on Jack Wilshere’s injury…
Arsene Wenger wrote:It is not very serious. They say he might be out for the whole of next week because he has an ankle inflammation. But he has not torn anything. He is a quick healer usually and a tough boy so I hope he will be quicker than the medical predictions.
Yeah, rush him back so that it gets inflammed again.
Seriously, does this twat never learn?

on Arsenal’s performance…
Arsene Wenger wrote:It was a bit frustrating that it was only forwards against defence.
BUT then he says this...

on the performance of Vermaelen and Koscielny….
Arsene Wenger wrote:I felt the two centre backs were very good, in my opinion, and played very well. I am quite happy with the performance of the centre backs. If you look at the goal we conceded today, I don’t think it comes from the centre backs.
So firstly he says it was all ( Arsenal ) attack versus ( Red Bull ) defence, but then say our centre backs played well.

The bloke really is just taking the piss. I can't believe anyone buys his spin anymore.

I think there are two categories of quotes from Wenger. Those that amuse me simply because they are so crass i.e. "the special circumstances" and those that are simply worrying as in this weekend's runaway winner

"We come under enormous pressure to buy centre halves. Well we have four of them, and Carl can play there too".

Depressing / worrying ? But not amusing....

Hence the signing of Jenkinson - "super quality"

From this years Membership Yearbook

pre Braga home game

"I believe our group stage is a good test because I think this group is much stronger than it looks"

So why on earth play a bunch of reserves in the 2 vital
away matches to throw away winning the group ?

post spuds home defeat

"with 5 minutes to go you make sure you win headers when you play at the back"

How about winning them all game ? or not letting the opposition get back into a match they were 2-0 down in ?

pre Blackpool away

"it is important to realize this team is amazing for what they do at their age. One day people will understand that , at the moment I am not suremany people do"

On the opposite page the average age of the Arsenal team was quoted as being 26 ! It is you who has ensured that we have hardly any older, experienced players and 26 is hardly emerging youngsters is it ?

pre Man utd home

"The team has accumulated a lot of experience despite their age. They are 23 on average but football- wise they are 26 or 27."

Opposite page again gives average age of Arsenal team as 25, so only 2 years out Arsene, but don't let the truth get in the way of your excuses.

post Bolton away

"for me we have done well but now, of course, people become impatient. I can understand that completely because I am impatient as well."

Year, after year, we have had hopeless Denilson, Eboue, Almunia and have waited for the likes of Bendtner, Clichy to stop making the same old errors but all of a sudden we are impatient !

pre match Fulham

"We don't rule out any position and we don't target any special position before the transfer market. We look to strengthen every year of course"

Of course, we look to strengthen every year  Sell your experienced best players and buy some promising youngsters is a great way to strengthen your team

No wonder Wenger went for sweat when you see the price of petrol!!!
