As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

HAVING SAID THAT, NO-ONE BUT TAYLOR HIMSELF KNOWS WHETHER HE MEANT TO HURT EDUARDO INTENTIONALLY, AND I'M POSITIVE THAT EVEN IF HE DID, THE BIRMINGHAM PLAYER WOULDN'T HAVE WANTED TO BREAK EDUARDO'S LEG.
EITHER WAY, LET'S ALL JUST HOPE THAT OUR CROATIAN NUMBER 9 MAKES A FULL RECOVERY FROM THE INJURY AND THAT THE BROKEN LEG DOESN'T SPELL THE END OF HIS CAREER AT THE TOP LEVEL.
here, here!
at least someone is talking sense about that tragic challenge. To suggest that taylor deserves a lifetime ban, to be killed or to suffer a similar inicdent is disgraceful. Football is/was a physical game, and taylor aint no malicious *word censored*. Im sure he is really down at the moment and disgusted with himself (this doesnt excuse or justify what he did) but sometime this happens in football. Is never nice, especially in the run down to the trophy where our form and fit players are dropping, but lets just hope the lads win the league for Eddy.

the pic you have is poor quality, so if you check number 4 on my link you cna see he's not actually smiling. moments after the tackle he may not have realised how serious the amount of damage his tackle did. The guy may have meant to show eddy that he meant business today but i doubt he meant to do that muhc damage.
If he did, then yes hes a fucking *word censored* and deserves never to play again but im not sure how we would find that out.
MY HONEST IMPRESSION AT THE TIME WAS THAT EDUARDO HAD INITIALLY PUSHED THE BALL A LITTLE TOO FAR, WHICH TEMPTED TAYLOR INTO A CHALLENGE, YET MANAGED TO REACH THE BALL FIRST. AT THE PACE THAT THE MODERN GAME IS PLAYED AT, YOU ONLY NEED TO BE A FRACTION OF A SECOND LATE OR DECEIVED BY A SKILLFUL TOUCH FOR IT TO APPEAR AS IF YOU WERE DELIBERATELY TRYING TO HURT SOMEONE. OBVIOUSLY, THAT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE.
ALTHOUGH STILL PHOTOS ARE NOT THE PERFECT WAY TO JUDGE AN INCIDENT, THE PICTURES DO LOOK VERY BAD AND OBVIOUSLY THE OUTCOME OF THE ATTEMPTED TACKLE WAS AWFUL. WHETHER IT WAS INTENTIONALLY DONE OR NOT, NO-ONE BUT TAYLOR CAN SAY FOR CERTAIN.
I HAVE YET TO SEE MOVING PICTURES OF THE TACKLE FROM ANOTHER ANGLE OTHER THAN THE ONE SKY SHOWED, SO IT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO MAKE A PROPER JUDGEMENT AS TO HOW LATE OR MALACIOUS TAYLOR'S INTENT WAS.
I CAN ONLY GO ON WHAT I WAS SEEING AND FEELING AT THE TIME OF THE TACKLE, AND THAT IS THAT IT WAS MIS-TIMED BUT NOT OVERLY PHYSICAL OR DELIBERATELY MEANT TO MAIM, AND CERTAINLY NOT WORTHY OF A LIFE-TIME BAN.

That is what is unusual, Sky are happy to show footage of Kenyans being hacked to death by machetes during alledged corrupt elections but fear we may be upset by scenes of a footballer being injured
I'm with IHH and TK on this. This isn't really about Martin Taylor. Yes, it was a very bad challenge and he deserves to get a substanital ban (5-7 games would be about right), but the real problem this awful injury highlights is with English referees and the FA.
I like the physical side of football but, especially with the speed of the game today, the referees should be much less tolerant of recklessness than they are. I don't begin to think Taylor intended to hurt Eddie but he went into that challenge not caring enough about what the consequences might be. If nothing else, you can see that from the fact Taylor is facing away from Eddie as the two collide.
And Wenger's point here is right: targeting skilful and fast players like those we have with rough-house tactics can easily, even unintentionally, slip into recklessness with consequences like those we saw today. The tactics used against Arsenal by various players from Bolton, Sunderland, Man U, Blackburn, Sheffield United and now Birmingham will lead to injuries like this, sooner or later. It's not just about Arsenal of course, but given the Wenger philosophy, we're bound to be amongst the principal victims of this sort of thing.
But it can be prevented. It's up to referees. They need to take control and come down hard on the rough-house tactics generally (they are against the rules of the game anyway), which will help avoid problems like this in the first place. It's a simple question of referees protecting the talented players attempting to do something creative on the pitch from those who lack the same talent and can only compete by getting physical.
As a postscript, of course none of us know what this injury means for Eddie's career - the possibilities cover everything from full recovery to end of career. I'm no athlete and even a small residual problem could have very different implications for Eddie than on ordinary bod like me, but I have broken bones in this way (though it was the bones in my arm rather than my leg) and, gross as the pictures look, you can recover from these breaks.
I am not suggesting anything sinister, I just find it strange that they Sky are willing to show images much more harrowing than that of Eddy's injury. Perhaps we would agree that Taylor was in fact unfortunate to have caused such damage to Eddy
