Now call me cynical but I wouldn't have put it past Wenger to have done this to put 2 fingers up at the non-AKBs on here!!1989 wrote:Squillaci was given the armband too late on, what are the odds of him being made captain when Cesc goes?
Udinese v. Sporting Lisbon before our friendly v Benfica.

At this stage I am at a point where I just dont know what to say anymore - every weakness that has been present for the past few seasons is still alive and well and will continue to be under this current regime
We could all go on about the likes of squillachi etc but what is the point when we already know that they are useless *word censored*
My concerns from tonight was with the guys that you would hope can make a difference this season and looking at that tonight I would suggest we have fcuk all to call upon when needed
ramsey really didnt step up for me tonight
I thought that a lot of the game esp in first half simply passed him by
chamakh looks like a guy that is really unhappy and doesnt want to be there. In this shit formation he is woefully isolated up front on his own but that is no excuse for a woeful 1st touch and shocking passing
gervinho to me looked like a head down runner in the theo mould and his link up play was poor.
frimpong highlighted the absolute lack of quality we have in the dm position. Aside from kicking a few of their players (when he could get near them that is
) the game totally passed him by as they played around him at pace. Aimar absolutely tore frimpong a new one

Protest march before Liverpool anyone?
Ive refused to buy any shirts or any club merchandise for me and my son now for two years

We have not sorted this since 2008.
Song and Wilshere partnership is quite good most of the time, beyond that there is no cover.
I can see why Frimpong is being given a chance, but considering he had a serious injury last season, why not try Coquelin too?
He had a good season in France last season and surely deserves a chance if Frimpong does?
Better still, buy Scott Parker this week.

Every time you post, you post absolute shit Tosspot, you're also one deluded wanker!!!tinpot lane wrote:And you discovered all that during the second half?worthing_gooner wrote:What part of it is an overreaction though? I for one think it is a scary thought that the matches will only get more competitive after today.
Wenger and Gazidis both categorically stated we would have a busy summer of ins and outs. So far we've signed one first team player and a youth from Charlton. We don't know who our captain will be and we have a question mark over one of our best midfielders who clearly doesn't want to be here.
We have given away four leads in pre season fixtures so far and have won just four games including two pre season friendlies in our last 21 since the Carling Cup final.
We're one injury away from having absolutely no goalthreat whatsoever and we have no number one goalkeeper.
We have a support which is split down the middle and more and more people think Wenger, a man who still has years to run on his contract, needs to go.
In the meantime our owner has said absolutely nothing and spends his time in the states.
I dont think anyone is overreacting.

Excellent performance tonite I thought, everything went to plan:
shit defending, overrun physically, no belief, no desire, tactically inept, shat ourselves at first sign of pressure.....
it's just a matter of time before the *word censored*'s off
looking forward to humilations in Italy, GeorgieLand, Manchester and at home
your time's up Arsene...........

I honestly thought that the first half performance was the best football I've seen us play in quite a while - probably since we beat Man U at home towards the end of last season, and certainly better than anything served up in pre-season.
We played with pace and the passing was at a decent enough level. RvP had a decent chance with the chipped finish and I thought we looked like we could get behind them whenever we liked.
We should enjoy watching RvP whilst he's here as it won't be a lot longer that we have any genuinely world class players amongst our ranks. Gervinho looked exciting too, at last someone quick and actually skillfull enough to take people on with some end product.
BUT
The 2nd half showed what we know already i.e. scratch beneath the surface of the first XI and the replacements in most of the key positions simply aren't up to it.
Squillaci is just beyond a joke. Is that dangled leg attempt of a challenge for their 2nd really befitting of a centre half for a team with aspirations of a top 4 four finish and decent run in the CL ? Flappyhandski, whilst not directly at fault for either goal, is a nerve wrecker for defenders too....bouncing up and down and flapping around. Noticed the difference as soon as he replaced Chesney.
Its difficult to come down too heavily on the likes of Jenkinson, Frimpong, Traore, Lansbury etc. They just aren't ready to all be thrown on together against a side of Benfica's quality and when they were, it was no surprise that we ended up getting beat. I do agree with the Chamakh comments too. I've tried defending the guy as I still remember him having to carry our injured forward line single handedly at the start of last season...but for some reason the guy looks shot to bits. I think the decision not to invest in a replacement left back will also be costly - I don't get Gibbs at all. He looks fragile and his tackling in one to one situations down the line are as bad, if not worse, than Clichy's.
If we were only to sign two players, I would go for a decent left back and CB now. Sagna, TV5, new centre half (pref Cahill), new LB (Baines)....not the worst back line imaginable.
But please just get rid of Squillaci. I'd take Denilson, Bendtner or Eboue back ahead of that useless wanker. He's now overtaken Flappy's ratio of goals per game (for which he is directly to blame)

Just back from near 40 degree heat in Lisbon to freezing, pissing rain in England
Won't repeat what's already been said. We were shit, I don't see us winning the CL qualifier let alone the league. That said, I had a great time, drank plenty of Super Bock & ticked off another stadium that was high up on my "to do" list
