Where was our 'captain' against Birmingham when we had a chance to win the first Silverware on 6 years - injured. Where was he in Barcelona? Setting up o his future team mates with back heels and cuddling them in the tunnel.

As a captain not fit to lace the boots of Adams or Vieira.

Time for us to move on!
Spot on, my sentiments exactly. He'll be remembered by me as a talented player who I have a few fond memories of, I wont hold anything against him but his whore friends at Barcelona I will do. Not in the same bracket as Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Adams etc

Next time they ask to use our training facilities.....they should be told to fuck right off.

Can't blame Cesc for going. He might have stayed if he wasn't surrounded by so many lightweight team mates.

Oh well. Draw a line under it, and move on downwards. :(

Absolutely.....cuntbag wenger and the cuntbags board drove cesc out of this club and it is a sad day for our once great club
We now no longer have a marquis name in our squad and this will be the finally nail in the "selling club" sign that is soon to be erected outside the grove
While i agree that the board and wenger have a lot of blame in this, surely the player himself should take some as well ?

If it is only £30m plus £5m additional then my view of Cesc changes. Fair price for Cesc would be about £45m. Its his agitation for a move that has meant we have had to sell at a knockdown price. Barca are cnuts, we all know that, and we all know he wanted to go there, but it can only be him and his attitude that has forced Arsenal to sell.

Maybe one day, one of the big clubs will nut-up and bench one of these big players that are agitating for a move.

Anyway, for Cesc there has to be disappointment in that his era at Arsenal has been one of decline and failure. Good as he is, we have gone backwards since he was a regular starter. Not his fault, but that's the truth of it.

Basically 30mill for Cesc is daylight robbery, but we dont have a choice do we? On the one hand I'd really like for the club to say to Barca "40mill or fuck off" but on the other hand I really dont want a player much less a CAPTAIN who doesnt want to wear the shirt.

If we had just put a 40mill release clause in his contract it would have prevented all this BS. It feels a bit like we're Barca's fucking feeder club in recent years. Shows how far we still have to go as a club.

Sadly, for as much as many of us will have fond memories of him, he hasn't actually won or achieved anything of note with Arsenal and as other posters have said as a result will never be mentioned in the same breath as Adams, Henry, Bergkamp etc. by true fans.

I think all Arsenal fans really wanted Henry to succeed at Barca (especially by way of the European Cup). Not sure so many will feel the same about this one.

Its a sad state of affairs but all the very best players feel they must play at the top three or four clubs in the world at least for some part of their career.

that said, the fact that we could lose these two big players in the first week of the new season is fucking unforgiveable. Joke.

Apparently Barca have offered 25mill + 5mill in add ons. Ces will then pay an additional 4mill out of his wages over a five year period.

So basically 30 million pounds. Can't believe it. Pathetic sum for a player of his quality, age and experience.

Good news.

Selling Cesc will give us the funds needed to buy Scott Dann!

here here!

he turned his back on us a long time ago in my opinion he spent most of last season wandering round the pitch looking at the ground, hardly an inspiring captain!

Arsenal gave him champions league football at 16 and made him the player he is today.

putting in £5m of his own money to fund the transfer, if thats true then WTF is that about!

£27 million!!!!!!!

What a fucking joke we have become :banghead:

Our best player, tied into a long contract, is being sold for less than £30m.

That's an absolute disgrace and those at the club that agreed this deal should feel fucking ashamed of themselves.

All the big talk from the club needs to stop. We have gone from a club on the precipice of European domination to a big talking bunch of under acheivers in less than a decade.

Shame on this board and shame on the manager.

Well, I'll be sad to see him go whatever anyone thinks of his commitment levels and love of Barcelona.

He never enjoyed the success of Vieira, Bergkamp, Henry etc, but I don't think that should be used against him as a player. I wonder how many trophies those three would have won if they had played in front of Fabianski, Eboue, Djourou, Squillaci and Clichy for 20 odd games a season ?

We shouldn't be dismissive about his departure as he now leaves behind one world class player at the club in Robin van Persie, compared to most of the last 15 years when a departing player has left behind a handful.

The club won't reinvest the money in a player of similar calibre - we have let the guy go on the cheap. When Sunderland get £20m for Jordan Henderson and we struggle our way to getting £30m for Cesc, the future looks bleak.

Enjoy RvP while he's here - once he switches the lights off we'll be left with a bunch of "never-will-be's" and people might starting thinking back to the days of Fabregas in midfield a bit differently
