Does Gallas behave too much like a fan to be captain? (24/2)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Does Gallas behave too much like a fan to be captain? (24/2)

usual thread starter… Would you be in favour of a serious clampdown on studs up challenges? Let’s face facts here, there are normally one or two in every match, but they often only get yellows because the target sees it coming and has time to jump out the way? Arsenal players are as guilty as those of other teams. Emmanuel Eboue on John Terry comes to mind, but I am sure there are others.

Lay off of Gallas. He's human and shows that he wears his heart on his sleeve for his fellow professionals and his team.
To suggest William is not a good captain it utter bollocks.

:( Had Gallas failed to quell an Arsenal team revolt against the injustice of it all a la Old Trafford 'Pizzagate' scenario I might agree with Ed. But Willie's reaction occured essentially after the battle - I know, what if Almunia had parried the penalty? - but I can't accept that our captain was concerned more about the loss of two points. It was an appalling day for Arsenal FC - even Ed needed time to compose himself - but at least there is the next game and with modern medicine as Ed so rightly says, hopefully also eventually for Eddie. :(

I think as captain Gallas should be more supportive of the younger players during a pretty trying match.

How did Clichy feel watching him stand at the far end of the pitch while the penalty was being taken. Clichy is not renowned for mistakes, and at worst should have been given a gee up by his captain. Where we now start to fear a lack of experience causing an implosion of confidence, when the pressure really starts to build, we need what experienced heads we have to steady the ship and lead by example.

I thought Gallas went a bit far yesterday. I am still only about 80% convinced about him as an Arsenal captain, and yesterdays antics havent increased that percentage.

like the ed, I was not to be spoken to for a long time yesterday. to make matters worse i had invited a Liverpool supporting mate over to watch them on setanta, and then had to endure the sight of Newcastle rolling over and dying. I could only watcch until they went 2-0 up.

All said and done, we are still in a better position than most expected pre season. The lads have a week to get the heads together and get back on track. With the loss of Eduardo for the forseeable future, we maybe need RVP rushed back a bit quicker than AW would've liked, and if we can hit some sort of winning run the we can still do it.

You made a very good comparison of drink-driving and stud-up challenges. You don't intend to do harm on purpose but if you do it, pay for it. I think Taylor should get a ban that is much longer than 3 games.

At the end of the day, we will never know if it was intentional or not, but the bottom line is he DID do it and Eduardo has to pay the price for this rash tackle.
The punishment given should be treated as warning to others to stop this sort of behaviour.
