In defence of William Gallas (24/2)
http://www.onlinegooner.com/exclusive/index.php?id=541
usual thread starter… there has been a lot of condemnation of Gallas’ actions at the conclusion of yesterday’s match, including by myself. So two discussion points for this thread…
1. Is there anyone out there who agrees with the writer that Gallas was not out of order?
2. In your heart of hearts do you believe Arsenal will win the league this season?

I was once again proud of Arsenal yesterday. I guess it will depend how they react but I believe the spirit they have - apart from the Adebayor/Bendtner problem - will see them through to the title.
And as the only redeeming feature of a truly awful day for Arsenal Football Club, at least Theo answered those 'fans' who had written him off at 18.

I PERSONALLY DIDN'T LIKE SEEING GALLAS THROW A TEENAGE STROP, ESPECIALLY BEFORE THE PENALTY HAD EVEN BEEN TAKEN!!
HOWEVER, I DO AGREE WITH THIS LINE FROM THE AUTHOR:
"It is very difficult for fans to relate to today’s highly paid footballers. William Gallas bridged that gap today. His actions had nothing to do with his wage packet, only his heart."
NOW WHETHER GALLAS THROWING HIS TOYS OUT OF THE PRAM WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO IS A MOOT POINT AND DEBATEABLE BOTH WAYS. I STILL THINK IT WASN'T A GOOD EXAMPLE TO SET AND ALSO KNEW IT WOULD GIVE THE MEDIA YET ANOTHER REASON TO SLAG US OFF - AS IF THEY NEEDED ANY.
HOWEVER WHAT I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE ON IS THE LAST PART OF THE PARAGRAPH:
"His actions had nothing to do with his wage packet, only his heart."
ALTHOUGH IN REALITY A SAD INDICTMENT OF THE MODERN GAME AND THE WAY IT'S GREED FOR MONEY HAS DISILLUSIONED THE FANS, DOESN'T IT MAKE A NICE CHANGE TO READ SOMETHING LIKE THAT ABOUT A PLAYER?

i asked before Sat for predictions contribitors said 3-0 3-1 2-0 to us and scum to draw!!
Its a marathon not time to lose heart now or have a strop press on !!!

Re: In defence of William Gallas (24/2)
I agree with the writer. He was emotional because we were cheated in front of his eyes. Better than a shrug and "oh, well". I like many was surprised about him being named captain but I am now 100% behind him. He is our proper captain.gooner.ed wrote:1. Very difficult. We can't afford to drop anymore cheap points like we have against Birmingham City twice.gooner.ed wrote:2. In your heart of hearts do you believe Arsenal will win the league this season?
I have for some time (and even more so now) thought that the British media is inherintly prejudiced against foreign players, clubs, international teams etc. This is backed up even more so today after reading one tabloid criticising the boss and William Gallas more than Martin Taylor. If Martin Taylor was foreign they would be calling to deport him.
Im sorry but the incident yesterday also backs up why the England team and British international teams are so crap. Instead of trying to better their techinques to compete with technically superior sides, they are insted told to kick them and hurt them.

It sums up the British media.Have a go at Gallas and Wenger let Taylor off the hookRemember Di Canio got a nine game ban for pushing the referee this crunt Taylor will get a 3 match ban..How would the press and Fergie have reacted if the tackle had been against Rooney.
It diappoints me that some Gooners are also attacking Gallas.

Well on this one we disagree Donaldo. I thought Gallas's behaviour was shit, the last thing you need from a leader. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt this time, given the circumstances of the Birmingham game, but Gallas will need to show much, much more maturity if he's going to carry our players through the last phase of the season. It was enough to see him get wound up by that *word censored*, Nani, but all the other players will be looking to him above anyone to show the character it takes to win the league from a winning position. He's had a good season (after a terrible one last year) but now is the time for Gallas to really earn his money.donaldo wrote:It sums up the British media.Have a go at Gallas and Wenger let Taylor off the hookRemember Di Canio got a nine game ban for pushing the referee this crunt Taylor will get a 3 match ban..How would the press and Fergie have reacted if the tackle had been against Rooney.

I wont disagree that Gallas "lost it" But for the BBC to connect the Gallas kick on Nani with the "tackle" that may have ended a players career is unforgivable.26may1989 wrote:Well on this one we disagree Donaldo. I believe Wenger making Gallas captain was a masterstroke. The team spirit under Gallas as captain has been excellent this season. Gallas hates losing.I would rather a bad winner than a good loser as captain
