For a change i decided to park my car in the Stadium of Light Metro station car park and jump on the Metro to Monument.
Once the game was over the journey to Stadium of Light was completed and the car driven as far as about two miles out when my brakes decided to pack in....lucky for me i managed to limp into a Premier Inn car park.
The guy on reception was excellent and allowed me to use the phone to call my break down service Green Flag.
An hour passed and a smashin local fella called Malcolm came and took look at the issue.
After seeing that the brake pad was totally warn and was scratching the brake disc he said that the 300+ mile journey was a long way for breakdown recovery and would cost a fortune. After a bit of thought he said to follow him to his private workshop where he might have had a spare brake pad. He didnt have one that fit....so he hacksawed it to make it fit lol....all the time he was worried about the drive i had...but whilst his wife was making cups of tea i was happy to let him do what was enough to get me home.
"Shame you didnt beat them bastards" he said
Well three hours later i was driving along the A1 towards M18 and home.
The reason i have done this thread is that i think people have had a bad week with the riots and that as humans we take so much, but this fella went way beyond his remit and was immense as was everyone who helped me and the missus get home. I know he was on call with Green Flag and perhaps what he did was the way things are, but it was his willing to help and make sure we got home that stood out....and when i offered him £30 for his trouble his wife said..."dont be daft, just get home to you children, that will be payment enough"......
The people of Sunderland...i salute you and thank you!!
Btw i got home at 8am this morning
