I keep hearing this 'expect' quote recycled as though Wenger said players wouldnt leave...
it was 100% obvious from his tone what he was saying live

the media 'misunderstanding' is 100% deliberate stirring

Cesc is a legend for me. He has treated the club with respect and his inevitable departure has been accelerated by a lack of investment in quality.

He gave us eight years. Would Henry, Bergkamp, Pires or Vieira have stuck around that long if they were one of only two world class players in a squad made up of Almunia, Comedy Eboue, Diaby and the Brazilian Ray Wilkins?

Maybe these other legends would have stayed as long as Cesc but their Arsenal years were surrounded by world class players who competed. Their loyalty was perhaps much easier to give. Cesc's draw to Barca was massive for obvious reasons. Henry didn't have as much as a draw to them as Fabregas but the Catalans still managed to turn TH14's head from as early as 2005, when our trophy cabinet was full of more than memories.

I can't blame Cesc. I blame AW and the club for not investing in a team that could match his ambition. I blame Gazidis for getting a terrible price for one of the world's best footballers approaching his prime.

its nothing to do with being a genius
it was to do with watching that press conference live
anyone who 'misunderstood' didnt do so and was media lead by the nose

Wenger said he wanted to talk about the match and players who were available
they wouldn't do that and kept asking him about Cesc and Nasri, asking if he expected them to leave
eventually he laughed and said I don't EXPECT any players to leave

live it was very obvious he was emphasising that he thought all players should want to stay at Arsenal
rather than making a statement of expectation

but this press/spin nonsense is all basically irrelevant,

how we play in our next few games is not ...

Good luck Cesc.
Transfer to Barcelona was on the cards from the day he arrived at us.

Took penalty with broken leg.
Threw pizza at Alex Ferguson.

Very good player.

People take this as like the end of the world; U have been there before, life goes on. At the end, its only football. I would also prefer playing with xavi, messi, iniesta and win some trophies instead of playing with Bendtner and Denilson.

Good luck Cesc, you are not a legend but I would say Arsenals second best midfielder after vieira.

I agree with this but people on here want to slate Wenger mate. A lot of people who slate him won't turn back now regardless of what happens. They certainly won't give any time to understand what he means in these situations.
