One positive from today
One positive from today
Thomas Vermaelen
Was outstanding, had Carroll in his pocket all game & I saw him bawling at a few players giving orders & directions. Criminal really that AW won't build a top quality defence around him. Closest thing we have to TA6 at the minute...

true. again we have a top top quality player at arsenal in vermaelen who'll probably realize he has to move to united or chelsea or barça or madrid if he really wants to have a succesfull career. fuck me, even moving to the likes of lyon and bayern and porto would mean he'd win more things in his career than if he stays here. maybe even moving from ajax won't prove to be the best for his career.mcdowell42 wrote:Himself and sczesny i thought were our 2 best players today
we could build a mean defence around szczesny sagna and vermaelen if we had an ambitious manager

Vermalen was fantastic today, really cool and composed and didn't allow himself to be bullied at all by Carroll who terrorised us for Newcastle last season. I said months ago that in this team Tommy should be captain because he's the only real leader, communicator that we have. But as usual Wenger just gives the captaincy to the player who's been here the longest! So when he's fit Diaby will lead the side!

Agreed mate - Vermaelen was outstanding yet again. It shows that Wenger can unearth a gem if only he pulls his head out of his arse for long enough.Dan_85 wrote:Thomas VermaelenWas outstanding, had Carroll in his pocket all game & I saw him bawling at a few players giving orders & directions. Trouble is - how long is a top class player gonna want to hang around a club that seems determined to self-destruct??

Having just returned from the game and after a few pints of the blackstuff, I've been wondering which thread to put my thoughts onto and then I saw the word 'positive' and that was the invitation I needed!
Yep, the centre half did well but I left the game a very very worried supporter. It makes me laugh when I hear that Wenger and other people thought we did ok. Yet again, ball retention is regarded as doing well. Playing ok at the back is regarded as doing well. Apart from the first 10/15 mins when we looked fairly lively, where was the creativity? A couple of long range shots, a couple of decent balls across the 6 yard box where for the 15th season running, nobody was prepared to gamble on a tap-in.
OK we had injuries but I still can't see where the defence splitting final pass is going to come from. The scousers looked comfortable today and Frimpong was stupid being on a yellow already but I'll put that down to inexperience.
I'm passed being angry. Today just cemented what we all knew. Without major injection of proven experience, of proven quality over the next few days, we could end up 6th or 7th. That was the performance of a gritty Everton or Villa in my opinion. Not the Arsenal of 5/7 years ago and boys and girls, you'd better get used to it.
