Walcott wasted talent

Post by SantaGooner »

Am I the only one to get frustrated at every game watching Theo's absence of movement when off the ball?? :banghead:

Theo has so much pace he should constantly make runs and harass the opposition defenders...if you remember last season home game when Defoe was introduced and gave our CB a very hard time making runs behind defenders constantly...and that paid off.

Instead of using his pace, Theo just waits on the side, while well marked by at least one or two defenders, and he only asks for the ball to be sent to his feet...and by the time the ball reached him he's been closed down and he can't go anywhere...

This happens all the time.

Theo needs to make runs regularly, and the ball needs to be sent into empty spaces behind defenders for him, to give him scoring opportunities.

What's the point giving him the ball to his feet while on the wings, when he can't dribble the defenders that always mark him tightly...also what's the point always going through the wings if the outcome is a cross in the box when there is nobody there...

I say let's stop going through the wings and let's send through balls behind defenders and let's have our wingers make runs towards the centre instead.

I think Theo has a fantastic talent, but it seems that nobody is taking the time to sit down with him to review his performance after each game, analysing his positioning and his (lack of) runs, and telling him each time what he should have done. I have seen no improvement since the end of last season...and it would be a shame to not make the most of his pace.

I think Theo could bring so much more to the team if he was properly looked after/coached...

Thoughts?

Once Theo starts to slow down as old father time catches up with him, he will be finished. He has no other attributes except pace.

We've wasted 3 seasons trying to improve his all round game by playing him out wide - he ain't and will never be a winger. If he does beat his man he doesn't actually look up to pick anyone out so his cross is wasted - that is if it actually stays in play at all - he does appear to have trouble wrapping his foot around the ball and putting some curl on it.

He needs to be played up top, on the shoulder of the last man where a decent through ball or little lob over woul dhave the defence shitting themsleves everytime.

Out wide he is not effective and (bless him) provides no defensive cover at all for our rampaging full backs who are equally woefull at crossing and then leave us desperately short in defence while they get back after fucking up anothe limpwristed attack.

Agree with the title of this thread.

He should have stuck with sprinting.

absolute bollocks. he's a very good finisher, in one on one situations he is brilliant

I guess we will have to wait until Theo hits 30 or Arsene decides to play him through the middle to find out which one of us is right won't we.

I feel sorry for the lad. He wants to play through the middle, he should be played through the middle, but the genius keeps him shafted out on the wing and killing his confidence.

Theo's level is about where we got him from Southampton..Ive never rated him. Yes he can run fast WOOHOO!! but so can usain Bolt.. Teams just park the bus when they play us nowadays so Theo has no space to run into like he did when he first came into the team.. Managers know he aint going to go past defenders using his dazzling skill so they just sit deep and watch him run round like a headless chicken...

If he is such a good finisher then why does he bottle shooting so often and look to pass the ball for someone else to take responsibility ?

He is at his best when he does it instintivly and doesn't try to think too hard about what he is going to do - cos then he fucks up.

Walcott is over rated.

Lennon
Young
Johnson
S-W Phillips.

All better, all more consistant.

Ive got no clue how this guy is a england regular.

I bet chamberlin will be much better then him 2 seasons

I share those thoughts.

Against what many others think, I have faith in him as a player, he will waste chances but on balance he has respectable goalscoring ratio and with some better coaching can be a positive to the team.

The sad thing about theo is that he is no better now than he was when he arrived.. We haven't developed him at all in fact we don't even know his best position and if anything we have probably destroyed what confidence he had when he was at Southampton...It makes you wonder why Ox Cham thought it was a good idea coming to us, cos in reality we ruin more young players than we make, most of them would be far better off developing elsewhere...Theo being the perfect example...
