9 Months for Edu

9 Months for Edu

Post by Silvstedt »

The Club can confirm that following the incident during Saturday’s match at Birmingham City, Eduardo has fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg.

He was immediately taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent surgery on Saturday evening. The operation was successful and Eduardo was transferred to a London-based hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier today (Monday 25th February), the Orthopaedic surgeon and Arsenal medical staff assessed the extent of the damage and possible time scale for a full recovery.

All being well, Eduardo will have his leg in plaster and using crutches for the next six to eight weeks. After that time, partial weight-bearing exercises will be scheduled into a slow rehabilitation process.

It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months time and making a full recovery after nine months.

Eduardo will be released from hospital in a few days.

The Arsenal medical team would like to take this opportunity to thank Birmingham City FC for their assistance on the day as well as the surgical and ward staff on S2 at Selly Oak Hospital for their expert medical care.

In addition, and on behalf of Eduardo, the Club would like to thank everyone for their many touching messages of support.

Thank God for that. Can you imagine the reception he's going to get when he comes back...and eventually scores?! :D

Sorry to say this, but given that this means Eddie will miss pretty much 4 months of next season, and even then we can't be sure whether he will recover fully physically and mentally, I think we should be signing another striker in the summer. It was already touch and go whether we've enough by way of striking resource in the squad, but we can't afford to be running so short for a good chunk of next season.

And if we did sign another striker, I hope Eddie comes back and makes the purchase price a waste of money.

You say that we need to buy another striker, but you know what arsene wenger is like. i reckon you'll see him move theo upfront, a position that wenger has said he is going to play eventually.

I'm no expert, and obviously cant diagnose from pictures....but 9 months seems like a short time considering how bad the break was!!! Looking forward to his return already, and its pleasing to hear he is so positive. Diaby had a bad break and he has looked good since being back.....hopefully the dude can do the same!!!

I am already looking forward to him making a full recovery and hopefully get back somewhere near his best.

When he returns it'll be probably louder than when Pires returned from that lengthy lay off....as the injury could have (and could still) stop him playing again (how awful would that be!)
