Why oh why do some here trust Wenger so much?
We are a rare club which makes profit in the transfer Market, has a good revenue-wagebill ratio, and just qualified for the CL. We are less than 5 days away from transfer window closing- just pay up the asking price and get on with it. Cahill will improve us? Yes. So what's the fucking problem?

I would be shocked if we didn't sign a Centre Back in this window. We've gone in for two now. This clearly shows Wenger believes he needs someone. I'ld like to think Arsenal could do a deal with Bolton. Why its been left this late I have no idea. However, I would say Gartside's conduct has been pretty poor given how we've usually had a good relationship with them since Coyle joined.
A bitter relic from Alladyce's time I suspect.

1. AW going in for defenders doesn't mean he actually wants them. He does this every summer with retarded bids for good players, so when the window closes, he can claim he was 'close'. If he really wanted Cahill, he woulda bid over £10 mil. But Cahill ain't French, so he made insulting bids.
2. The decision to sell Cesc and Nasri so close to the end of the transfer deadline is a very deliberate tactic. You know how it goes: leave it right to the end, then claim it was 'too late' to make any new signings, and then be told 'nothing you can do about it now, so just get behind the team and manager'
I don't think Gartside has done anything wrong myself, personally. When Barca made a flimsy bid of £24 mil for Cesc two months ago the club were very quick to 'leak' the story and there was outrage.
Gartside is pissed off and rightly so. That bid is a fucking insult and if anything, it means Bolton will make sure they don't do business with Arsenal. It makes the whole club and especially Le C*nt, look a joke.
I don't disagree that he is in the right. But I don't think its appropriate for him to have done what he did. Whatever you say about Arsenal, we do always respect privacy. To make it public, and also imply what he thinks of our manager is pretty shitty.
I do think he wants a Centre Back though. The Squillaci gamble failed, Kos is a good backup centre back, but I assume, and thats all I can do, that he wants one to partner Verm for the long term.
Let's hope so anyway.

If we bid 6m maybe we'd go up to 9m or 10m. TBH I think going over 10m for a 31 year old whos never been tested at the very top level (Champs league etc) would br crazy.
We accepted 7m for Clichy who has got a lot more big games under his belt than Cahill and is mich younger. Both players were similar position contract wise.
Anything over 10m for Cahill is a piss take.

I don't get the fuss about this. No one knows the true figure that was offered or what the add on's are. It seems very obvious to me - Wenger wants the player. Typically you go in low and then Bolton say our offer is derisory because they want us to know how upset they are so we offer more. In reality it's probably a decent offer that needs a bit more work to get accepted.
If the money reported has been offered it's not ridiculous as a starter. We sold Clichy for similar money with the same length of contract and he is the same age and more experienced.
You all hark on about Man U wanting players and getting them, but perhaps their negotiations just aren't publicised in press conferences and on Twitter. I bet you any money their first offers for De Gea, Young and Jones weren't any where near what they ended up paying for them. It's called negotiation.

Tim Cahill is 31 years old - he's not a centre back though

Dosn't anyone else think a CM is far more urgently needed than a CB!!!??
Ok our defence is not great but our midfield definitely needs an experienced leader in.
Wishere and Ramsey are both top players but they're not experienced enough to be the heart of the squad or to lift us to where we need to be.
Kevin Nolan would have been a good target.

Much as I'd agree that £6m would be a joke, there is a difference here. Barca were all over the media saying they were buying Cesc and we were not planning to sell.Babatunde wrote:I don't think Gartside has done anything wrong myself, personally. Having read exactly what has been said, this time around it's Bolton who are telling everyone that Arsenal are interested and to go so public over the bid suggests that they are desparate for the money. They are just using this to apply pressure to Wenger to come back with a better offer or get someone else to bid. If they are that desparate then maybe Wenger has taken the right approach......
I always thought Bolton had a decent relationship with Arsenal from what I'd read, certainly since Coyle has been there - probably due to us letting them have Jack on loan.
Personally I rarely believe the press - they hate Arsenal and Wenger and so they will chuck enough shit around hoping it sticks, there's no story in 'Arsenal have made an opening bid, Bolton turned it down and now they are talking' is there?
The summer has been a shambles - no doubt, the Fabregas / Nasri issue dragged on too long and the gaps from last season should have been filled ages ago but at least this will hopefully lead to us getting a middle ground with Bolton and getting a player I think is the pick of the 3 mainly linked all summer.
We got £7m for 26 year old Clichy with a year left - plenty champs league experience and 11 caps for the French.
Cahill is 25, 3 England caps and no European experience with a year left -would £6m really be that mad (even though it has been denied)?
I think they need the money so perhaps £8m cash could seal it?
Scott Parker joining Spurz is a bit of blow IMO - with the young group we have in centre mid perhaps having him about could have helped but nevermind eh?!
