Setting up my own business
Hello all, I'm thinking of setting up my own little painting & decorating firm, I'm going to give it a go when I move to Essex in April.
Is there any other gooners here who are in the trade, if so how is it for work out there and do you think it's a big risk?

Cheers for the feedback, I know it will be a bit of a risk but I might as well give it a try, I begin my diploma in painting & decorating soon so it will be a fun experience regardless!GunnerRyan wrote:my dads been a painter and decorator for nearly 35 years i think
lately since the recession and that works been a bit irregular and hit and miss, most of it's up london i believe and he says the moneys not as good as it used to be. but good luck
As I'm moving to Essex I hope to set up on a basic level, get my self a little van and what's needed, try and get some small contracts if I can and hopefully a bit of word of mouth might help!
I'm fed up of factory work so I might as well give it a shot.

Hi mate, I wish you all the best in your new venture, but beware, there's alot of land out there that's been purchased but the property hasn't been built on it yet because of the housing situation and the house price slump, just don't put all you eggs in one basket, have a back up plan (unlike Arsene)... Also do your homework, go around the building sites and find out from the 'shop floor level' how busy they are... (Sorry to go on... just a few thoughts for you) good luck again...Lost_Gooner wrote:Hello all, I'm thinking of setting up my own little painting & decorating firm, I'm going to give it a go when I move to Essex in April.

Thanks for all your feedback, and all those who are wishing me good luck, thanks I'm going to need it
I'll let you all know how it's going once I get going, first of all I've got to get through this 34 week course, and not forgetting putting a good business plan together!
Thanks again fellow gooners, and once I'm up and running give me a shout if you need any painting & decorating done (Gooner rates shall apply)
