I thought Coquelin was poor enough despite what others said he just couldnt tackle or failed to.QuartzGooner wrote:The defence were strangers and all struggled with an unfamiliar defensive midfield in front of them.
"Who coaches them" is a pertinent a question as who should we buy?
Ramsey was also disgraceful.
All 4 defenders were an utter disgrace, I feel for Jenkinson though because he was on the bench for Charlton last season why is he even playing.
Its a disgrace! There is talent there, but fuck me CC at best this season. He is actually being destroyed by this! Hes a Gooner as well so I;d say hes hurting far more than those other *word censored*!
Djourou is the new Stephanovs.
Although not wholly responsible for the mauling at Old Trafford, both of them played a key part.
What the fuck was he doing? For the first goal, he let the ball bounce over his head, then tried to hold Welbeck off so the keeper could gather it. Why not just hoof it clear? For the penalty, he stood still while Evra ran straight towards him.
And he looks a proper cünt with that ginger mohawk. Prick.

Totally awful:
Blockley
Mancini
Stepanovs
Ceasar
Others
Djourou
Sendoros
Djourou was totally abysmal today - positionally and defensively. I still think Koscienly is decent but needs a leader in tow - on his own or with Djourou he seems lost or doesn't want too take control. Ignasi or Bartley are not the answer (yet): it's stating the obvious but we need two centre backs (I'd settle for one) but the reluctance to buy is unbelievable.
Is this a wider issue? Wants top quality i.e. Subotic, but Board won't sanction fee or wages (more likley the latter) told to buy Cahill, Samba or Jagilka all of whom - and let's be frank here - are not as good as Vermaelen and only marginally better than Kos (but all miles better that Djourou.

I don't think Subotic's wages will be a stumbling block (we pay average players more than he's probably on in Dortmund), and if he's £20m, it's not going to be loads more than we'd have to pay for a Cahill or Jagielka.MJB wrote:Is this a wider issue? You mentioned Ignasi - I think he would have done a better job than Djourou tonight. He looked a lot more solid vs Liverpool (even if they're obviously an inferior team)
My point here is that when players make the jump to the teams on the top rung on the ladder (and I still maintain that we are a big club on the top rung of the ladder) they expect to see their salaries increase appropriately. Mata goes to Chelsea. I expect they offered him a lot more than we did salary wise (assuming the reports are true that we made a bid). If we look to attract the next (best) generation of players then we are always likely to find ourselves competing against the Chelsaes, Man Citys of this world. If we don't (compete) then we are left hoping that UEFA's financial fair play rules will help us. I'm not holding my breath.

Johan is an average defender at best. His positioning and reading of the game is poor. He reacts rather than acts. The best defenders anticipate and act, they don't just react all the time. By the time you react in most cases the fucking ball is in the net.
Of course one thing that is not helping our defenders is the switch to zonal marking at set pieces. If you are not good enough to effectively control the box and mark when using man-marking then you haven't a hope with zonal marking because it requires more concentration, an ability to anticipate and a high level of individual decision making - all things none of our back 4 (apart from Vermaelen to a certain extent) have.
We need a good defensive coach urgently because that whole backline operate and think as individuals, they are not a unit. That has to be taught.

My cousin (also a Gooner) absolves djouru of all blame for the 1st goal and claims that chesney should have dealt with it when it was that close to his 6 yd line
Personally I thought djouru was absolute shit yesterday and having been a supporter of him in the past I am now firmly in the group saying that he is absolute shit
Another shit young player from the mythical "wenger school of excellence"

I'm not sure how much more proof is required that Djourou is hopeless.
If only his play matched his words, then he'd be the new Baresi. Unfortunately, he's vying with Traore for the title of most useless *word censored* ever.
Djourou is symptomatic of the regression of our team, one that doesn't look like it will stop any time soon.

You can only laugh, no matter what bodies we play our defending is a fuckibg shambles however If AW picked up the phone to Adams, Keown, Winteburn or Dixon I'm sure they'd be at the training ground in a flash as am sure they feel equally hurt and embarrassed at the state of our club after watching yesterday!!!

This is the key point rather than any fury vented at Djourou, a player with the raw materials to be a decent centre back but who looks bereft of confidence and proper instruction.DB10GOONER wrote: We need a good defensive coach urgently because that whole backline operate and think as individuals, they are not a unit. I risk sounding like a broken record but with Keown having been a proven success in that capacity in the 2005 -2 006 season I would like to know why he was not retained as defensive coach.
No matter who we buy, if the coaching and training are inadequate so too will be the defensive performance.
