All able-bodied men in South Korea must begin military service for the country's armed forces before the age of 28. Unless the darling of the national team is excused service, he will have to leave Arsenal in 2013.

You couldnt make it up if you tried !!

Arsenal go in for Alex :D

ARSENAL want Chelsea's Brazilian defender Alex.

Desperate Gunners boss Arsene Wenger finally realised he had to act after his depleted side were humiliated 8-2 at Manchester United yesterday.

The Emirates outfit have contacted Chelsea about Alex and the Blues are ready to sell.

Arsenal value him at around £7m but their London rivals want £10m.

Alex, 29, was an unused sub against Norwich on Saturday and is unsure of his future at Stamford Bridge.

Im sure I read somewhere that Spuds were going to move for Cahill after the debacle they suffered yesterday so we need to move quick.

I cant quote the source because I cant really remember where I heard it but if its true we need to move FAST

The Sun? I think we are clutching at straws here- especially the bit about the GIC realising he has to spend some money.

It was on SSN this morning, but I would still prefer Samba as he is more of an old fashion centre-half who lays his body on the line unlike our current crop (apart from TV) who look like a bunch of bottlers!!!

There are a lot of things about the modern day Arsenal that confuse especially when it comes to transfer's but the scott parker situation totally baffles me I have to say. The fact is that song will be gone to the anc for a month in jan and whether you rate him or not (personally I think that he is shit) he will be another body missing from a shockingly weak squad. Parker is available for 6m-8m which is not big money especially for a player that plays with heart and passion in a position that we are weak. Fcuk this shit about not wanting to kill our young players and fcuk this loyalty to sub standard shit policy cos that is what has got us in this mess to begin with - spend the 6m and instill some english spirit into this team cos lets face it 6m isnt a big gamble now is it ?

Couldn't agree more. As for "killing the youngsters" the fact is that if they're good enough they'll force their way in regardless of who is in front of them. And on the evidence of what we've seen of Frimpong (only a couple of matches, I know) I would rather have him than Song in any case.

Can see why Parker has struggled to find a club. He is 30, on 70k a week. Add a 6-8m fee and a 4 year deal and it's a 25m investment.

I think he is a great player! But his best attribute IMO is his energy levels, something that will worsen quickly as he heads into his 30's.

I don't believe this story, but if miraculously it turned out to be true it would be an excellent signing...
He would make an excellent CB pairing with Verm...and tbh i think he is a class above the likes of Cahill and Samba ...

Alex is another centre back that I just do not rate - why cant we sign players that other clubs want (and lille dont count btw  ) instead of taking rejects from the likes of the chavs ? Alex has the turning ability of the QE 2 imo

I've come to accept no one coming in at this stage is going to make a big difference..they are going to be 2m to 10m signing from Frannce who at best can help us challange for 4th place. The only thing that could be a really positive thing for the club now is if we announce a defensive coach and a director of football who is going to do all negotiations and handle the financial side.

I think your being very harsh on him...Who says Chelski don't want him...They have a number of CB options all of which would cruise in to our side, Terry is the mainstay and the others chop and change around him..Alex over the last season or so has been the option used most often at CB....If he did come to us it wouldn't be because he was their reject it would be because he would be pretty much assured of the main CB slot with us and Chelski could afford to lose him as they have other options...

As for his ability, he's a big powerful CB, strong in the air, quick enough and comfortable on the ball and he knows how to defend, he's just what we need...and with regards your comment on his turning ability...you won't find many if any CB's of his type and size as mobile as he is...
