Transfer Rumours Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Werder Bremen's German international defender Per Mertesacker.

The 26-year-old centre-back is captain for the Bundesliga side and reports suggested last week that he wanted to stay in the pub.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been keen to recruit defenders following the 8-2 defeat by Manchester United on Sunday.

Wenger is also set to sign Brazilian left-back Andre Santos from Fenerbahce.

More to follow.

All there in black and white!

Song for Mertesacker (intentionally bad), to the tune of "It's got to be Perfect" by Fairground Attraction:

"He's got to beeeeeeee PER-fect,

He's got to beeeeeeee worth it,

All of these people, slate our defence,

But Mertesacker's fucking immense,

He's got to beeeeee PER-fect"!

He's 26, German International, Captain of his club side. I'd say he's of the same ilk as Hangeland but has slightly better mobility.

There are better options in German football if you ask me.

Why not both?

I'd say Wilshere will be annoyed if hes not signed.
