Transfer Rumours Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why not both?

I'd say Wilshere will be annoyed if hes not signed.
How do you know that?

SPIEGEL ONLINE: From which club couldn't you deflect an offer? Mertesacker: Since I am small, I am fan of arsenal London. When I was in England, I had gotten myself equal a few arsenal leotards. The English league is a dream there, however because of the mentality. There it would fall surely with difficulty to say no.

Love it!

Bet the price has gone up since our embarrassing bid on Friday, it would have if i were Bolton
Let Spurs have the leftovers then - or better still, pick him up for free at the end of the season. No way is Cahill worth more than about 10M. I stand behind the club on that one!!

IMO Bolton only leaked the info so others would be interested.

Actually getting quite worried about this Mertesacker chap, most people saying we are only signing him because he is cheap and in his last year of contract.

Not only that, but "if there is one CB out there not suited to defending a high line its Mertesacker. Clumsy, slow on the turn and terrible in defending in highline."

Fuck sake, I really think our defense is fucked now if we dont buy another PL CB and change our system.

I think him and Gary Cahill are mates. Might help him stay at the club longer when we finish mid table....

Here's us in defensive chaos and we are in talks with "A small bloke who likes leotards."

Welcome to Arsenal, Wayne Sleep!

But after sunday isnt the point that we shouldnt be playing with such a high line ? :? Are you not pissed off looking at game after game our left backs (pick any one of them) going awol as they leave a huge gap down our left flank and according to bg this new brazilian guy is going to be no different so surely playing deeper as a back 4 makes more sense ?

I am not for 1 nano second claiming to be an expert on mertesacker and maybe all these concerns about his mobility are very valid but for me he is def no more immobile than samba or alex. He is experienced at international and champs league level so for me that def gives him an advantage over cahill. I do not understand the argument that he is being bought cos he is cheap when you consider that he is a regular in the german team that is probably only 2nd behind spain in terms of european national teams at the mo (please dont quote bullshit fifa ratings to me  ). Yes there are better players out there in his position but are they available and would this current AFC administration spent the fortunes needed to buy them ? Doubtful I would think so for me I would be happy signing this guy and I am hoping he brings some of that tough german mentality into a flaky mentally weak team 8) :barscarf:

I agree he would be good in the right system. But I really cannot see us changing system with Wenger in charge. I suppose you are right about Samba, Alex, Hangeland who would look out of place in the system.

If we change system it possibly would be good addition in place of Koscielny. I still would hope another could be brought in and Djourou and Squallaci dumped from the club.

Another thing I'm worried about is despite the noises Wenger said about Premier League experience we arent getting any it seems? Looking like Santos, Young and Mertesacker in so far, these guys need time to adapt but we have absolutely no time.
