Transfer Rumours Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The first match I went to was Arsenal at home to Liverpool, I don't remember the year but I'm pretty sure David Price scored the goal at the clock end and we won 1-0. The tele that night I saw myself behind the Arsenal goal in the north-bank as the camera showed the crowd jumping up and down. Before the game I was taken into the bar that ran along the back of the 'NB' where I was introduced to 'Lennie Peters' (Peters and Lee) Son, a big long haired looking fella who scared the shit out of me because he looked like a total loon. The only reason I remember that is because Peters and Lee were the best fucking group on the planet back then.

Welcome home, weeeelllcome come on in and close the door....

So short answer no, I'm not a spud..

I gave him hair!

Do spuds try to infiltrate this site often? Is it a major problem. I know they look like us and their accent isn't far off, apart from the dribbling and wiping snot with the backs of their hands, but surely they'd not bother screening the net all day and posting the best rumours they can find!

I posted 'Dann' is going to Blackburn this afternoon, hours before the Telegraph claimed Samba could be coming to Arsenal. I also posted that Wenger was in France hours before the rumours about M'Vila were doing the rounds..

*Shrugs, you guys must have had some really bad experiences with spud usurpers, I have a van load of tin foil if you want to make hats..

Agree.

Just cannot get excited about Young, Santos and Mertesacker.

Functional but not marquee names.

Would gotze be a marquis name ? I mean by all accounts he is one of the most promising young players in world football right now but he couldnt be considered marquis yet could he ? :?
If the answer to that question is no then I doubt very much you will get your marquis signing - what marquis signings would be available for starters ? The 3 madrid players (kaka, benzema or higuain) might be available but can you honestly see us paying the fee and wages required for these deals ? All the other players that we have been linked with and are gettable (cahill, samba, jags, baines, arteta and hazard even) cannot in my opinion be classed as marquis signings
We lost Cesc and Nasri this summer.

Two players who could produce bits of magic on the pitch. (Nasri inconsistent though).

So we have brought in:

A teenage right back who looks as if he needs a season on loan followed by a season on the bench.

A quite good attacking player in Gervinho.

A teenage Southampton prodigy who could be the fastest and best thing since sliced bread but we do not know at this stage.

And Joel Campbell who actually looks a bright spark, but he has no work permit and is getting loaned to a French team for the season.

So then a Korean striker who will sell replica shirts? Hope he can play too, no way of knowing how he will adapt to the Premiership.

A Brazilian left back who is poor at defending, but might with any luck replace Arshavin on the left of midfield doing the role what already bought Arshavin for at £16M. Arshavin who has not produced much since the end of his first season?

And a tall central defender the like of which should be a certainty in a decent defence?

Fills holes in the squad but none of them would make me look forward to a game more than I do so already.

Goetze is staying put for two more seasons according to his agent.

Cahill, Vertonghen, M'Vila I would still regard as very worthwhile signings to add steel to a weak team.

But I really hope that two or more of Sneider, Hazard, Arteta, Benayoun etc are signed.
Ramsey and Chamakh (who may go on loan) are looking out of sorts, and Wilshere could be out for three weeks.

We are noticeably creatively weaker than last season.
In case anyone needs reminding, we finished fourth last season.

In my opinion 'functional' is just what we need right now!

We are in a mess and require some foundation and stability. Any superstar added to that is just a bonus.

Couple of bits of early morning chatter from the Sky Sports transfer clockwatch:
7:42 The Editor: Thanks to Adam for the tip-off that Arsenal are poised for a Deadline Day swoop for Keisuke Honda who he claims is in London for a medical. If you think Adam is on the money, give him the thumbs up in the Rumour Room. Follow me on Twitter through the day - @skysportswebed
7:17 Speculation: Reports in France suggest that Lorient have agreed a deal with Arsenal to take their new Costa Rican signing Joel Campbell on-loan for the season.

How many big fuck-off target men do they need?

Honda has a good engine. Technically good and hugely reliable.

Not the most stylish but you know what you are getting.

Expensive maybe but overall good value and bound to have a good resale value after 3 years.

Linked with M'Vila and Clint Dempsey on goal.com - the latter is particularly interesting to me.
