Perhaps I am still pretending that Arsenal is a big, ambitious club and perhaps I need to lower my expectation to Stoke-like levels and hope for the odd FA Cup final.
But then I remember what an Arsenal ticket costs and I rub my eyes in disbelief that any fee-paying Arsenal fan could truly be happy with that squad. That Arsenal squad is weaker than the Liverpool squad, and that is a fact. For a start there is absolutely no depth to the attack whatsoever, it's weak as piss.

LDB mate, I have seen Choo Young play dozens of times. He's shit. Full stop.
I'll ask again: if he was so decent, could you please explain why Lille signed him as back-up to Moussa Sow and Dimitri Payet?? Because he weren't signed as first choice for them and that is little Lille.

Arteta is a good signing imo. Mertesacker is an ok signing.

But it isn't good enough, and most of you seem to be overlooking that Wenger has yet again managed to use the transfer window to pocket in excess of £25 million.

It's one thing to claim he has no money, but the very minimum is that EVERY PENNY of sales should have been spent, and that should be even more the case after getting gang-banged EIGHT TWO at Old Trafford.

£25 mil profit made again. And yet, Arse fans will say nothing and just sigh with relief that our spasticated manager actually bothered to half do his job this summer. He's getting away with gross mismanagement again.

It should not be this easy for Arse fans to be please. Not after Sunday, nto after 6.5% and certainly not after six empty years.
Bang on! Can't believe the stick you're getting. Guys on here who have moaned all summer about Wenger and the Club, now won over by a few panic buys.....

What Fergie got:

Ash Young (most exciting winger in England), Phil Jones (top promising English centre-back) and David DeGea (who has started shaky but remains one of the top goalkeeping prospects in Europe).

Now compare that to Wenger and then pls answer me this: would you trust Wenger to ever spend a penny of Arsenal's money ever again?
They got a winger, centre back, keeper.

We got a proven centre back, left back, central midfielder, winger, striker, as well as a smattering of kids.

I'm no Wenger fan, but that's quite an impressive amount of signings. I'm still downbeat about our chances this season, but I think today's activity at Arsenal, as well as Liverpool losing Mereles will push us back into 4th place.

Baba did you think he would sign as many players as he has?

yeah the clb have turned into money grabbing *word censored*, but there isnt much we can do about it.

Yes people are pleased of course they are, arent you?

Would you have prefered we bought no one?

Just because people are pleased with these signing doesnt mean they feel appeased with all the wrongs at the club.

Its a good thing we got these players.

What he has done in the last few days, I'm happy about.
As Bren says, Cahill and as striker in January we could improve.

My problem is, we should be buying players every window, not just once on a whim.
Irish Goon mate....agree.
But one thing: the striker should have been signed NOW. RVP is going to get crocked in the Euro qualifiers and have you seen the situation up front once that happens? When RVP gets crocked long-term, Arsenal's striking options will be shitter than Bolton's, Stoke's and even West Brom's.

That is unacceptable.

If Rooney gets injured, ManUre have Chicharito. Or Welbeck. Or Berba.
At Chelski take your pick: Torres, Didier, Anelka.
Even Liverpool have Suarez, Bellamy and Caroll.
Ok perhaps I am comparing Arsenal to big clubs - so look at even West Brom. No Odomwingiye and they can call on Shane Long (who is v decent).
Even cash-strapped Everton can count on Beckford when Saha is crocked as ever.

Arsenal's attack is an absolute comedy and I cannot, Cannot believe that Arsenal fans have been fooled again. Gazidis and AW have done ya once more. They have BANKED £25 mil and people are saying they're happy. Unbelievable.

That Arsenal squad is weaker than Liverpool's because the buys were panic buys quite obviously. There was no plan because Wenger never expected an 8-2 humping at OT. That changed everything and forced him into a corner. Meanwhile, Arsenal's faint hopes of league success are already dead. More red cards than goals, just 1 point, one historic raping by ManYoo and a home schooling by an average Liverpool side.

Not good enough. But each to their own...

While it would have been nice to be able to make the fantasy football signings we all crave I think that the last 24 hours has at last seen some of the more urgent weaknesses in the squad addressed.

Mertesacker should be the partner that Vermaelen has lacked since his arrival. Together they could be as good as Bould and Adams, who also were never the quickest centre halves but, my God were they effective.

Something needed to be done at left back and a Brazillian international with 20 something caps can't be a bad bet. Together with Sagna that should be a pretty decent back 4.

Quite pleased that the Arteta deal has been sorted out in time. Hopefully he has totally recovered from his injury, if he can reproduce the form he's shown for the previous 3 seasons he will be a great addition and our forwards will reap the benefits of his ability to create chances. Can see him playing in an advanced role just behind RVP and doing very well. Would have asked about Tim Cahill while I was on to Moyes.

Not too excited about Benayoun, assume he will be a squad player, no harm in taking him on loan, experienced and could be useful at some point in the season.

Somewhat relieved that we didnt get taken in by Bolton's brinkmanship over Cahill, the fact that he's gone nowhere proves he was overpriced by Coyle. Likely to pick him up at christmas or for free at the end of the season providing we're still looking good for Champions League qualification.

Would have liked to have seen another striker in addition to Park Chu-young, but it might be time for Theo to be given a run up front to see whether he can deliver or not.

Not too pleased about so many players going out on loan, if we're tried them and they cant deliver then sell them, dont see the point in Loaning out Bentner et al.

Babatunde wrote:I personally think it has been absolutely shambolic. I am disgusted and appalled at Arsenal this summer, never have I been more repulsed by Wenger and the c**ts working on transfers in this club.

First things first: Arsenal have made a fucking profit in the transfer market AGAIN. That is quite simply unacceptable. It is scandalous that Wenger has made more money for his pals again when he had over £80 million at his disposal.

Next thing: YOSSI BENAYOUN. Easy this one: when Alex Ferguson is willing to sell you a player, you'll end up with a piece of shit (Silvestre). When Chelski are willing to actually lend Arsenal a player, not only is it a sign of how small-time we've become; but it shows how shit that player must be. Do you think Villas-Boas lent him out for fun? More importantly, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT CHEAPSKATE WENGER DOING SIGNING PLAYERS ON FUCKING LOOOAN WHEN HE HAS STACKS OF CASH LYING ABOUT??! There are tons of quality playmakers he could have tried to spend money on (Gotze, Diego, Gourcuff, Augusto etc...)

Yet we end up signing some Chelski reject ON LOAN. Shocking.

The position up front is unbelievable. Bendtner is superior to Chamakh, but he has been farmed out. So the rubbish Chamakh hangs about to stink the place out and pick up his £80k a week and now Arsenal are left with just two recognised strikers: RVP and Chooo Young whatever. So once RVP is injured, Arsenal will be left with a rubbish Korean from Ligue Deux and a piece of shit who belongs in Ligue Deux. Untrue.

DEFENCE: Mertesacker is an ok signing. But where is the proven PL defender? WHERE? Arsenal have stacks of cash but as usual, cheapskate Wenger did not want to push the boat out a bit more for Cahill. So it means we will be seeing plenty more of that hapless piss-flaps Djourou, and sadly the other spastic Koscielny. Great. Perhaps Man United can manage 10 at the Emirates when they visit.

Arsenal are one quality creative midfielder short and I am absolutely disgusted no striker has been brought in. The striker one especially will kill Arsenal big-time. RVP will get crocked soon, and the options up front are just fucking laughable. Literally, we've got two Championship standard players (at best) up front and they will get plenty of minutes once RVP is crocked. Fuck this I am absolutely sickened that Wenger has MADE A PROFIT AGAIN. HE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH IT.

8 fucking 2 we lost to Man United, and Wenger still ain't fucking gone out and signed another top-notch centre back and a quality striker.

FUCK OFF WENGER.
Some may not like the way you say it but everything you say is spot on.

Is that a fact?

I obviously have no insider knowledge, but we've been linked with Mertesacker for over a year, does that mean he's still a panic buy? We sold Clichy in June, and we replaced him with an international left back. Is that a panic buy?

We have been linked with Arteta for a few years (always with the caveat "if Fabregas goes"), does that make him a panic buy (more likely just the "next best" option).
The club never planned to sell Nasri, so I'd agree Benayoun is probably a "panic" signing, but fuck it, a loan agreement is risk free.

Yes I see your point but you're just denoting positions?? How about the Quality of those positions! We got a striker yes - is he any good? No. He's shit. Winger, Gervinho? Is he great? No. Is he decent? Yeah he's alright.

Now compare our winger with Fergie's. Night and day. Gervinho ain't fit to clean Ashley Young's balls. At centre back Mertesacker is good, but Fergie got someone who knew the league.

Yes it's an impressive amount of signings but sorry no amount of spin is gonna convince me that the quality is there.

Like I said, some are so desperate that we're just counting the number of signings, and not even paying attention to their quality.

I think sadly people will need to lower their expectations. And I know with our ticket prices, its almost impossoble to do so, but that is modern day Arsenal FC.

We arent going to be competing with the Man Uniteds, Manchester Citys, Chelseas etc of this world this season and maybe not for several years now.

Our time to win the league was the last 4 years when it was at its weakest. Each year we had a great chance but fucked it up. United nor Chelsea were top quality in the last 4 years, last season the standard was piss poor.

Sadly I think this season, Chelsea, United and City have upped their level, we have downgraded to Spurs, Liverpool level, and the gap is now huge.

These signings will help us compete with Liverpool and Spurs for 4th place, domestic trophies and a run in Europe.

Had these signings not been made, we would most certainly be looking at a 7th to 14th place finish in the league. And certainly well below LFC and Spurs.

So I think many are happy we've improved to challenge these sides and specially our rivals Spurs.

I see what you're saying but to answer: No. I am far from pleased.

I am far from pleased because I see a so-called (former) big club with a depth of striking options that is inferior to Bolton, West Brom, Everton, Sunderland and Villa.

Why do things have to be in extremes and absolutes? You ask 'would you prefer we bought no one'. Why does that have to be the ONLY alternative? Here's another one for you: how about instead of pocketing £25 million, Wenger actually made a serious bid for the surplus-to-requirements-at-Madrid Gonzalo Higuain? How about Wenger rocks up to Villareal and says 'here is £20 million, I would like Brazil international striker Nilmar'. You think they woulda turned that kinda money down?!

Why do things have to be in absolutes? I am saying that considering Wenger has spent over £50 million on players, there's an awful lot of question marks. That is why I will maintain what I said: I did not even want Wenger having any money to spend because when he does spend it, he blows it pointlessly.

Ppl say he is constrained by wages? Fine. I understand it might be a problem for a Galactico signing like Sneijder. But don't tell me players like Nilmar couldn't be bought. Don't tell me that creative midfielders like Gourcuff or MATA could have been signed with that excess £25 million instead of fucking BENAYOUN!!! All those signings were more than feasible but then again, money woulda had to be spent.

I am not easily pleased though you see, and I am not so desperate that Wenger's mismanagement will be overlooked by a flurry of (average) signings and a £25 mil profit.

I repeat: I find it unbelievable that with the prices some of you pay, and with the hammering we took last Sunday, and Wenger's years of incompetence, that he would be able to win you over so easily by finally PARTLY addressing things he has been overlooking for years.

He made a £25 mil profit. And we've got shit up front beyond RVP.

Still....

Ask yourself this.Would we have signed these players if we hadnt suffered the worst defeat in 115 years? That 8-2 forced Wenger to spend the money. Thanks Fergie

What's the obsession with striking options :?

We have more strikers this year than we did last year, and to my knowledge we haven't sold any significant strikers (OMG, JET  ). Why not give Park and Gervinho a chance?

People also said we should have signed Chris Armstrong instead of Bergkamp back in the day

Happy with:
Mertersacker
Arteta
Gervinho

Unhappy with:
Benyayoun
Jenkinson
(yeah I know he's a kid and will supposedly get better but he is a back up player and if he's called to play for an injured first teamer and he plays like he did at the start of the season then we're in trouble).

Indifferent to:
Santos
Ox-Chamberlaine
Park Chu Young
Joel Campbell
Will need to watch them play and see how they get on.

The amount of bodies he's brought in are ok. It's the quality that is the problem. When you look at the list of ins and outs (sorry if this has already been done, haven't read the whole thread).
Cesc - Arteta
Nas - Benayoun
Clichy - Mertesacker
Lansbury - Santos
Bendtner - Gervinho
Eboue - Oxcart - Chamberpot
Denilson - Park Chu
Campbell - Mr Miyaichi
JET

Overall there may be a slight increase in quality in total, the more important thing is that hopefully all the new guys will be 'hungry' and be very up for the battle....no puns about Park Chu and being hungry!! 8)

The problem is, we were nowhere near good enough last season and we haven't 'really' strengthened, we've just replaced. We're still a couple of injuries away from potential disaster...
Chezza, TV or PM, RVP.

It doesn't change my mind too much about our final league position ie: I thought 7th or 8th or maybe lower before the signings, now I think 5th will be the best we can get unless by some miracle we stay mainly injury free and the braindead players in our squad stop getting red cards! Both of those are unlikely!! However, new players lift a club and hopefully we will have enough lift to put a couple of wins together. Then we'll see what happens.
A couple of January signings could well be vital and MUST be made if required. Somehow though, I expect Wenger will still be getting over the panic attacks he must be having now, signing all these players, and we will now not sign anyone for a year.
