Youve done it again.... Why arent we buying him off of them or beating them to his signature? because he isnt good enough to play for them maybe?
All that said he is a decent player but not a world class one so lets not get carried away
jonny3110 wrote:I don't get the moaning I really don't. Mert, Arteta and Santos are all proper quality! I for one would have taken them all at the beginning of the window, no question! Also, we won fuck all with C’esc and the chubby lesbian, so get the bad apples out of the cart (not that I think Fabs was, love the guy but you know, they’ve gotta wanna play for us and all that) and get in some very decent consistent men! All of them are leaders, and let’s be honest, you lot would all have got shot of Clichy at the start of the window and rightly so, and last year when the chavs signed Benayoun many of us were saying that’s exactly the type of player we need so let’s hope he’s fit and has a resurgence in his career!
My only gripe is it took the Mancs to embarrass us to new heights and fall well behind the pace this early to get this all done. And, they all didn’t have a proper pre season, which lets be honest at this level is appalling, but fuck it if that’s the hand that rocked the cradle then so be it! Let’s get behind them from now on and look at the positives, we have a bit of a squad to push for top 4!!!
Sorry mate, not having a pop, but you answered your own question there!
Ha, no I realised I did in a way, I mean I don't get the negativity with the quality we've bought! If we'd signed Arteta from like Madrid or AC Milan we'd all be loving this and going off it, but as it's Everton and not too glamorous I think we're losing sight of just how good and consitant he is! Same for Mert and Yossi IMO...Jury's out on Santos
Yeah, I know what you mean and I agree. But there will always be some negativity with football fans no matter what. I agree they are good signings but there is still the issues of when they were signed and why. Not to mention (even though they do improve our squad) the fact that we still could have done with a couple more tbh.
I rate Arteta in particular. Always struck me as an intelligent skilful player and has a bit of heart too. Sure he may not be as technically gifted as Cesc - and many will point at that - but for me it is an opportunity to change our way of playing to work to Arteta and Wilshere's strengths now. The big question is will Wenger take that opportunity and will he do it correctly...?
Jonny, I dont think people are complaining about the signings we have per se but there can be no doubt that we didnt buy enough good players. I mean overall you have to say that at most we have bought 4 players that will go into our starting 11 which isnt good enough considering we have lost 3 players from last season's best 11 and that best 11 was already lacking in quality to begin with

He 100% could mate! Remember that Baptista lad once played for Madrid

Agreed 100% with this.
I would add; yes, they are good signings but imagine them added to Cesc and Nasri...

Yea we definately could have done with a couple more! ESPECIALLY a marquee signing up top like a Kaka or Benzema. If we had one of them 2 and either Jag or Cahill added to yesterdays dealings then I genuinely would have thought we had a shot of a real resurgence and go for a trophy.
Positives to take are that we seem to have replaced either with quality (Clichy for Santos, Mert for any other CB but Verminator), or we've replaced similar players and doubled up (Arteta and Yossi - Fabs, Gervinho and Ox - Nasri). Also we can now also stop focusing the formation on Cesc, be a strong defensive unit and if we add like the Kaka's and Cahills of this world to our roster in Jan or next Summer and keep what we've got we can push on. I think we should look at it in a good way, similarly to Liverpool and how they've rebuilt from their slump!

Yea, that's the dissapointment. Also if he'd have done this in July, my gut tells me that Nasri would still be there

Agree with most of the comments that Arteta is a worthy signing as are Mert and Santos......BUT
The Board now have a PROFIT from this transfer window of ober £54 million, so we Could have bought Cahill or Jags from everton and even Hazard or Benzema....
We are now aiming to try and stay in the Top 4, whereas we should have been aiming to be Top of the Top 4.
I think Arteta will improve as a player with our style of play....I look forward to seeing him and jack control mid-field and TV5 and Mertesacker defend successfully - especially from free kicks/corners etc...
Got Gerv in as well who look a good buy. Pretty much replacing Nasri really. People wouldn't have been happy with whoever we signed. Had Kaka come in people would have been stating he was shit. Its the way of the fan.
I think top 4 is a possibility again. The league is so out of reach due to United-City.
Anyone else feel that yesterday was like a whole Arsenal season in fast forward?
Starts off with much optimism, halfway through it still looks promising and then just goes downhill very quickly and dies a slow and painfull death?
I am happy with Arteta and Mertesacker signings, but not "over the moon", about them. I feel they were signed about 3 years too late. Lets hope I'm proven wrong.
I still feel we should have "broken the bank" on at least 1 other midfielder and brought in another defender, but quite honestly I don't know who it should have been.
It really pisses me off when someone like Forlan moves for about 5m and in last years window Ozil went to Real for about 8m. Surely we could have afforded that?
Are well, onwards and upwards....or should that be FORWARD?

fingers crossed eh!?
FFS even 2bungs Harry couldnt get Chaill - Bolton hav fucked themselves over that big time. They'll be crying about that one come Jan you watch
rigsby wrote:Indeed, apparently what they wanted to sell him for was huge. Think Spurs offered around 14, and Bolton even wanted Defoe!
honestly People just blab on about getting chaill - so we pay 17mill for a player who is in the last yr of his contract? Stupid I rekon.
let him stay at the reebok.
