Are You happy with Transfer Dealings?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We still didnt get an experienced keeper to back-up and mentor Sczc and for my money we could have done with another CB purely because our current first choice cant stay fit. Arteta will be the bit of creativity we need in midfield but he cant be a long term solution we have to find a replacement for Csc in the long run.
I'd love to have someone in football explain the need or postive reason for things being done late. Can't see that it's as black and white as it looks.

We clearly were not the only ones. I know QPR had a late injection of money but Spurs offloaded about 5 players in the space of a few hours.
Just don't ask Alex Ferguson though (greatest manager in English football history), his story might be a bit different (he got all his players in early)
Did they not miss out on a quite big target?

We are no injuries away from playing Alex Thong or Diaby.

Happy days.

In part you are correct - in tems of injuries.

However what i don't get is why? You seem only to be able to make criticism in an unpleasant manner, why call someone a toilet brush?

You really seem to have had a bee in your bonnet since you arrived and started posting on here, surely any thread or post/s are most likely to illicit good responses be they good polemic, debate, humour or even sarcasm (heaven forbid! )...if the aim and intention of the subject matter is to get across a point or view or opinion and Yes! Express one's ANGER! Rather than simply throw insults into the mix - It isn't as if the 'name calling/insults' lend any weight to what you are trying to get across - as some of them seem aimed at fellow Gooners.

That along with a rather unhealthy dose of continual negativity and uneccesary barbs is defeating what I am guessing is your intention...to express an opinion or five, and see what others think.

There is a chinese proverb that goes along the lines of "He that is first to shout has lost the argument"....a little more passion and lot less vitriol might just help, but hey! what do I know......Like many on here (and Not on here) I am a Gooner deeply dissatisfied with the way My Club is being run....and will speak my mind about it and protest when and where possible, but I know that resorting to purile, angry insults won't get me anywhere....

While your at it get them to explain how 1 point from 9 as a result of buying players late is so positive

what you're saying is Babatunde needs some sort of volume control.

I'd like to turn him *OFF*, then glue that mofo down.

I'm glad we bought solid experience but it shouldn't have had to take so long. Mertesacker is the big CB we've need for years. I'm not happy that Almunia and Diaby are still stealing a living.

Am happy with the players bought.

Not too happy with the loan deal for Amber (Dev will need her in the shop)

Very disappointed that we have not spent the money that was supposedly available to him.

We are turning into a Mickey Mouse club.

What was the 6% needed for ?

Ecstatic Mertesacker been signed, might not be the fastest but neither was Bouldy or Adams, been crying out for us to sign him and he will bring the height we desperately needed for set pieces etc and experience which we crying out for,Arteta well that is coup signing and should give our midfield the play making attack we lost. Not sure on Santos has never seen him play but Yossi loan deal might be a good one for us.

The thing i'm angry at is that it's all done so,so late when all this business should have been done in July,we could have got Mertesacker then or even last January for £10mil but with Cesc fiasco going on for 1/2 yrs The Arsenal should have anticipated it and brought like for like(we got the money just to stingy to spend it).

Tim Payton from AST reckons Mertesacker is a poor mans Jagielka.

Seriously Tim? :shock
To be fair rigsby that was a stupid and unnecessary post. The comparisons with Theo are obvious to everyone but your previous post seemed to suggest ulterior and unethical motives for the comparison
Fair do, apologies if interpreted as such, wasn't the intention. The intention was to ask why him and Theo were comparable. I don't think the comparisons were obvious, I still don't. I wasn't at any point calling anyone a racist however.

What you mean top clubs like Racing Santander and Chelsea reserves?
He was very good at Liverpool and popular with the fans there. I sat with their fans for a game at Anfield (mate of mine is a season ticket holder, so I got a free ticket). Ask their fans whether they wanted to let him go?

I do not think Wenger had him on a list of prospective buys, but when he found out he was available thought a year loan deal is worth a punt. The gamble element being that he was injured last season, rather than any concern over talent.

He is an experienced Premiership and international player who speaks English.
And with Chamakh in awful form, Gervinho scheduled to be away for the ACN, Campbell out on loan, and Afobe very much still learning the game, Benayoun is worth that gamble.

I'm convinced he was told to buy and he only bought because of the embarrassment last weekend. The whole thing stinks of Georges panic buys of Helder, Kiwomya and Hartson.
The sad fact is that Man U, Man C and Chavs wouldn't have been interested in any of the players we have signed and pretty much no-one from our entire squad would get into their first teams, except maybe Jack, a fit RVP and Sagna. That is a really sad state of affairs.

I can see big issues with fitness for both Arteta and Benny. I think the defence will be better with Mertesacker but Wenger will tinker with it and rotate players so we'll only see TV and PM together sometimes.

Bottom line is, Wenger will still be in deep shit at the end of the season and there's every chance we won't qualify for the CL. Hopefully he'll still be out the door at the end of the season.
