Samuel Eto'o?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'll tell you what. If Arsenal ever make a truly top class signing whilst Wenger is in charge, I will walk from Finsbury park to AG with my knob hanging out wearing a spuds shirt with 'kick my balls' written on the back.
There is no going back SPUDMASHER and i look forward to the day it happens   I would let you off wearing the sp*rs shirt though dont want you humiliated

To clarify:- By top class I mean a player that is at the top of their game, an established big name and sought after by a few big clubs.
PEOPLE ON THE FORUM THAT MAKE RASH SUGGESTIONS LIKE THAT HAVE A TRACK RECORD OF FAILURE. SURE YOU DON'T WANT TO CHANGE THAT FORFEIT, SPUDMASHER?
Its okay Hlebby. I have absolute confidence that We will not sign any such player. The only exclusion I would make is if the player publicly stated before bidding started that he only wanted to play for Arsenal. If he didn't state that then Chelsea or Manure would scare us out of the bidding by throwing ridiculously big figures at his club. I am confident that my Willy will remain tucked away and do not retract my pledge. :D :D

I think spud that you should have narrowed the bet somewhat by saying that we will never make a big name signing while Arsene is in charge - you might come unstuck after he leaves

next season we will have..RVP,Ade,Walcott,Bendtner and Vela.
Why would we want E"to?
Id say that Le Boss will be looking for an out and out Winger if anything
and a world class centre half

Why do we need a centre half when we'll have Toure, Gallas, Senderos, Djorou and Song :o

Agreed re a winger (Robben would be the one I'd go for), but re a striker:

RvP: The new Darren Anderton - given his last two years of injury, can we ever rely on him?

Walcott and Bendtner: We all want them to succeed but they may not and they are a distance from being success stories.

Vela: As above, only more so.

So, with Eddie out until Christmas (and we still don't know what state he'll come back in, physically and mentally), we will go into next season with only one established, proven, reliably fit striker: Ade.

I doubt Wenger will do anything crazy like going for Eto'o this summer, but objectively, a signing like that is what we'll need, even if it means shipping out one of Bendtner and Walcott. Or we could just allow Chelsea to sign Eto'o.

You've missed the point. Spud et al. were talking about big names Wenger has signed at the peak of their powers when sought after many other clubs...

Suker - ageing and on the decline demonstrated by the fact he soon moved on to West Ham.

Overmars - injury prone and no one would touch him.

Gallas + Campbell - fair enough, although they don't really fit the category in question because no huge transfer fee was paid for them.

Big Phil - jokes never were your strong point...

Pires - again, although he was an international footballer, it was only after playing for us that he developed the reputation he now has.

Henry - as above.

I agree to a point TS i think Gallas and Campbell were big signings ok money wise they werent but if we got Ronaldinho on a bosman would he not be a big signing?

You're absolutely right, but I think the point is that Wenger is unlikely to break the bank for a big name or enter a 'bidding war'. And, although they were big players, us signing them isn't an example of us spending big to buy a big name, you know?

sorry to disagree why Pires was playing for Metz he tore a decent Newcastle team apart Arsenal was intrested then so was Juve Milan and Real Madrid he opted to join Marsielles for whatever reason though. He was a big name trouble all people see is premiership players being the only decent players
