The 'R' word

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

These are the only clubs who might finish above Arsenal

You'll be 7th at the very worst, and most likely either 5th or 6th.

Talk of relegation is utterly fucking mental tbh

You're absolutely right mate. Obviously I support a team that has been relegated (plenty of times, including being the worst ever PL side twice in a row) and who have flirted with relegation and just survived. I think by now I have a decent idea of teams which will struggle badly and teams which wont. Arsenal are miles away from being relegation threatened. I know people are saying that the last 17 games or so are relegation form (and they are) but a lot of that was played when Arsenal at least thought there was nothing to play for. Over the course of a full season you are nowhere near bad enough to go down and, much though he is far from flavour of the month, Wenger hasnt suddenly gone from a great manager to a manager bad enough to relegate Arsenal.

There is an obvious problem with confidence (or the lack thereof) and there is a lack of leadership in the club and Wenger needs to take a lot of the blame for this. Despite this, as you rightly say, there is a hell of a lot of shit in this league and you will pick up points almost by default. There will be plenty of games where teams arent good enough to get at your admittedly very poor defensive unit, and there will be games where the oppositions poor defence lets you get a few goals ahead. Having a very good keeper will pick you up some points as well. I know the Newcastle game showed you can throw almost any lead away, but it wont happen every time, far from it.

Time will tell of course, but I'm 95% confident that your opinion and mine that you'll be at least 8th will be proven to be correct, quite easily. This league is absolutely shite after the first 6 or 7 clubs and people are really overestimating the situation if they think you're bad enough to finish 18th
Hate to be right like, but, yet again  . Seriously though, some gooners I think just wanted to feel as if they supported a lower half side when in reality they were never anywhere near it and were never going to be. Trust me lads, unless you're pretty old. you dont know what its like to support a side actually troubled by relegation

I'll just put this straight, havent bothered reading much through this,,, But there is NO chance arsenal will get relegated...We've had the worst start you can imagine but were still not even in the bottom 3! No wilshere and no TV, 2 very imoportant players for us injured and we've played utd and liverpool already! Some of you make me laugh. Bullshit.

I said something some months (a year?) ago that I personally believe that we've been punching above our weight for the past few seasons.

What I mean is that the team wasn't good enough but simply due to Wenger (somehow) the team managed to get the results. Maybe down to luck or the odd talented individual/spark of magic but other then that I felt there were better teams around us that should have been higher.

I also said that without Wenger the team could conceivably crumble. On the basis that when you have a good manager, whom knows his players, can get the best out of them. Anyone else wouldn't do as well.

What I didn't expect and I now believe is the case is that Wenger has now lost the dressing room.
My fear is with the board.
How long can they keep this up? The worse this goes on more up rest will continue.
So even taking the football aside but the commercial aspect of possibly losing RVP or Wilshere should get them thinking.

It’s a similar situation to Wright Vs Rioch.

As a side thought I said to Mrs B that Relegation wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

I want to make it clear that I don’t want us to go down…on the slightest!

I, like most of us believe some think is rotten at the club, we’re going backwards and we need rebuilding top to bottom. So going down could be our chance to move forward. One step back, two steps forward. We would actually get our Arsenal back.

Firstly the cost element. Season Tickets would have to come down….and would need to be down a fair bit to keep attendances.
We’d lose a few tourists and the odd glory hunter giving the opportunity back to Arsenal supports which have been priced out of the game for years. No more fair weather supporters.

Wenger would be no more.
Also the dross would have to go. No longer could we afford wages for Almunia, Denilson and Bendtner etc….even selling them for a free would save millions in wages.
We’d also see who was loyal and would stay.

So it would be a massive chance to rebuild the team. Plus we’d have millions to spend to get us back up.

Still wouldn’t want it to happen in a million years.

But what if...

...people running club decided it would be good for our stability as a club to get relegated (instead of mid-table mediocrity)...recieve parchute payement, get rid of expensive players, pay kids £300 000 a year, and have 60 000 at E******S every week paying £15 -£20 per game? Club would make profits, it would be well run etc...

Scary thought, but not impossible. Stranger things have happened.

What could it possibly be that makes me so negative?

Perhaps its the paying a four figure sum for a season ticket to see a team thats just shipped 12 goals in two away games?

Or maybe its the repeated abject faliures being repeated every year with no hope of them being put right with the current manager at the helm.

The only R word I can think of is Rosetinter.

The only 'retard' is someone that expects another person to change their team because they can't handle hearing any criticism of it!!

I don't think we'll be relegated because over 38 games, there'll be many teams worse than us but it's come to something when we're actually having to address the question. So much for the trophies and then the domination to follow naturally, as Wenger promised.
