On the train home. Ox & Coquelin were excellent, thought Benayoun, Frimpong & Gibbs were pretty good too. Of course we had to make hard work of things as always.

I literally died inside when "one Arsene Wenger" started up

Haven't been to the Grove this season yet ,been out of the country (and have struggled to shift my Season ticket seat BTW ) but surely the right response is to boo when the muppets strike up this one. That's what I'm going to do. First game back will be Sunderland.

Thought we looked shocking in the first 30 minutes. I've noticed in all our games this season that in that same opening period our defence looks more shaky than Shakin' Stevens.

Gibbs is one that needs 45 mins to settle into every game, even against Shrewsbury he was getting caught out of position and didn't look brilliant. If Santos doesn't show why he's an International, we're in big trouble on that left side.

Any ball into our box versus Djourou and Fabianski was pretty much a 50-50 goal. It was that bad.

Coquelin was pretty impressive. Sliding around the pitch with a bit of Flamini about him.

Oxlaide looked a real talent. Quick and posesses actual tricks, THAT WORK.

Everyone else was so-so. Ok, we're not talking about our first team here, but then again we ARE talking about a league 2 side.

To be fair, Shrews looked a really decent outfit who didn't disgrace themselves at all, played some really good stuff.

Some of the chants were a bit questionable. "Who are ya, who are ya?" Uh, they're League 2 Shrewsbury Town...

The Ox played well, way ahead of Theo when he first signed progress-wise. Coquelin also broke up attacks well, Benayoun was OK and Chamakh...well he was still Chamakh. No idea what's happened to him, he doesn't look anything like the player he was this time last year. Poor movement, didnt look like he wanted to win anything, and literally moaned whenever he didnt get the ball exactly when he wanted it. Anything will be better than him at the moment.

Park debut was a bit meh, sure he will grow into the club but was a bit underwhelmed in all honesty. Benayoun played well and I'm not going to go into the back 4 as the names say it all about how well they played. Shrewsbury could easily have been 3-0 up inside the first half hour.

What did everyone think about the "one Arsene Wenger" chants going up?

The only bright spark was the OX, who was running every ball, crossing in everything, shooting when he could. If he was smart he would of steered clear of us, arsenal atm seem to knock any uniqueness out of players, until they just do triangle passing and only shooting when arms length away from goal

I do find it funny how reading this thread there were people on here calling supporters actually at the game "plastic supporters"
I always thought plastic supporters were those that didnt go to games.


anyway a decent win. I did predict 5-0 but had forgotten how crap Chamakh was. The defending for the first half was appalling. At the moment I would have more confidence in Almunia than Fabianski in goal.

None of the team is really ready for the first team unfortunately I thought, although surely Park should now be ahead of Chamakh on the subs bench.
Oxlade Chamberlain did ok, bit disappointed by Frimpong.

He rebuilt the club, went back to simple basics, installing some much needed discipline.

Agreed mate. This is one of my biggest issues with Wengerball, on a par with the total disregard of defence - turning players into mindless robots & drilling virtually all spontaneity out of them.

People talk about Manure pulling results out of the bag due to their mental strength, but it's also down to their creative players having the freedom to use their own fucking mind & initiative. How many times have they looked like dropping points only for a Grannyshagger, or a Ronaldo/Nani/Berbatov/Giggs to produce a match-winning piece of magic out of nothing. Not even just the overhead kicks or screamers, just the opportunity to deviate from the script and look for the non-obvious pass, or take a player on and actually run at defenders.

When they need a goal & bring on subs, invariably they change the game. When we do nothing changes cos the player coming on is just programmed to go through the same zombie motions as the player he's replacing.

A team with individual talents like Cesc, RVP, Nasri, Arshavin & Jack should never have been so predictable. If you took any one of the 5 manc players above they've probably produced almost as many spontaneous, truly individual moments at key times in the last few years as all 5 of the Arsenal ones combined. Once again, we're weaker than the sum of our parts.

That's why as much potential as this Ox kid may have, it's hard to get excited about how good he could go on to be.
