Joe Mercer is the correct answer.
Having lost the - I think - 1952 Cup Final to Newcastle when we were down to 10 men(some things never change) for most of the game as no subs were then allowed and their goal had gone over the dead ball line before it was crossed, Joe said afterwards:-
" I always though the greatest honour in football was to Captain England. In fact it was to Captain Arsenal today!"
But - yes TA6 is the one who I would want right now.

Adams would have walked up to the ref and called him a cheat just like he did back in 89 to Ellery, excpet these days he'd have been sent off and pick up an additional ban.
Kenny Sansom was very much a follow me over the trenches type Captain along with Tone, but for sheer pride and enthusiam it would take someone special to top Wrighty when he was given the armband against Everton in 96/97 season, the guy couldn't stop smiling, his chest stuck out proud and when he scored the winner his celebration pointing to the armband was unforgetable.

Has to be Big Tone......... leader through and through.
The sight of him firstly hammering the ball home in the 4-0'ing of Everton and then his arms out celebration has to be one of the most fantastic sporting moments i have ever seen on telly. I felt 10 feet tall as a proud Gooner watching it.

You sure?
Adams was captain for 14 years, Mercer came to Arsenal quite late in his career and would have no way been there for 14 years.
