Joel Campbell has signed.

Its understandable why people are so cynical regarding Joel Campbell, we have acquired many youngsters over the years that have arrived with big reputations that they simply couldn't live up to.

We have also signed some who have lived up to their reputations and that seems to be forgotten in the midst of all the Wenger bashing

Indeed we have. Unfortunately my faith in Arsene's judgement is very low at the moment and I can't see him turning me around anytime soon.

But I would love to be proven wrong, its just unlikely. Its not 2005 anymore.

Youngsters like who? - apart from Cesc of course.

I'm still just about in the pro-Wenger camp I suppose, but other than Cesc, I can't think of youngsters who have been signed and lived up to their early reputation... :?

I'm sure there are some, but please mate, can you remind me WHO THEY ARE?

Every time I try and name the success strories, I keep thinking of disappoinments like Vela, Merida, Bendtner, Denilson, Theo, Diaby, Djourou, Senderos, Flappy, etc.

I suppose we can clutch at straws and say Szs has been a success, but in reality he's only just broken into the team! and Ramsey has hardly been a success... he might be eventually, but certainly not yet!

Flamini, just about... for 1 season. who else?

It's slim pickings!

richpye was saying there's been youngsters we've SIGNED who have lived up to their reputations.

We didn't buy Wilshere...

As I said, in recent years there's not many - IF ANY - youngsters we've signed who have been a success... other than Cesc.

Of course, we can look to the future for possible candidates, but we've been doing that for years now...

I still class Clichy as a success. And Anelka, and Theo.

Many will disagree I am sure, but I can only dream of being as shit as them

ok, but them being not as shit as you doesn't really classify them as a success - well, not on it's own anyway.

I don't know, you were talking about players who have lived up to their reputation, and perhaps I'm wrong, but even as a Theo fan (which I am), I really think he's been something of a disappointment. A useful one though, and I think people are over the top in their criticism.

hmm... okay, Clichy yes. I'll give you that one.

Anelka? - wow, that was 15 years ago mate. I was thinking more recent i.e. Youth Project era. But yes, if you want to go back that far to find success strories, then Anelka was definately a success, without a doubt.
