Adebayor Togo Song.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I agree with this...can't stand it if people around me start moaning when a player gives it some back after scoring. If you give it out, then you've got to be prepared to take it back.

I'm glad this has been posted as I was going to bring this up myself.

Is it me but there appears to be a huge gulf between the two chants?!

Wanting someone to be retrospectively killed? Please come on!
Is that really ville?

In most sports especially football there's often something that upsets fans and a player moving to a rival club is one of them.
We saw it when Sol moved to us.
He got called a Judas, a doll wearing his top was burnt and he received hate mail and death threats. The latter two being the worst.

I can't condone the chant but as it’s a poor attempt at banter which for me does overstep the mark....but only slightly. Only because people were killed. However, in the heat of the moment I half expect it but its only words. Sticks and stones.

Unlike the low racist chants that we expect from Sp*ds about Ade.
Or the vilification and wild accusation from supporters about Wenger being a pedo.

safcftm wrote:Nowt wrong with a bit of a tasteless chant tbh, take away that kind of thing from football "terraces" and we might as well just get rid of segregation and sit drinking tea with the opposition. Redknapp is quick to highlight fans "wishing" that Adebayor was killed, but doesnt bother mentioning Spurs paedophile chants to wenger, or even the racist chants they gave Adebayor a few seasons back, the Sol Campbell "we wont give a fuck when you're hanging from a tree, judas c**t with HIV" chant etc, etc. All clubs do it, especially in a derby, no point in Redknapp pissing and moaning about it. The only thing I do think is that fans sometimes get a bit precious when players give them abuse back, if people are going to sing things like that, then dont be surprised if the player rubs it right in if he scores or his team wins.
Just seen this (between my post) and agree mate.

There is a huge gulf...and if you want to test that out you can pop into any pub and tell some guy that you wish they were dead...he might laugh in your face...and then tell him he's a peadophile...and then he might nut you in the face.

I just wish we could've come up with something that was actually funny instead of singing about a terrorist attack

I guess it stemmed from the 'coach trip' song.

The coach trip song was at least pretty funny

Lets not get carried away, wishing somebody dead who could've actually been killed is not right.
Its tantamount to "wish you died from cancer" to an actual cancer survivor.

To be honest I don't feel like wasting my breath on Adebayor.

Of course there's a lot of double standards here - no such outcry about the disgusting songs sung about Wenger.

If 'Arry is really concerned about people who "can’t be right mentally" he might want to concentrate on the snarling faces of hatred and insults the Tottscum supporters were throwing at Sagna as he was being treated.

As an aside, the problem with us is that we have plenty of 'negative chants' against other teams and very few positive ones to support our players.

I find the paedophile chants to be in poor taste but I've never felt the need to cry & kick up a fuss about them because at the end of the day is anyone really being hurt by them?. This is football, you sing naughty songs, take the piss outta people because you know it winds them up, then after 90 mins you go home & all is forgotten. Very, very rarely is anything personal.

Football has been watered down enough as it is, if we can't sing rude songs we might as well all give up now. Reminds me of some of the laws theyre trying to introduce to football in Eastern Europe where swearing or singing offensive songs will become an arrestable offence. Do we want that over here?

Or the press could just tell him to start moralising about a few gooners singing a song in bad taste after he starts paying his taxes. Of all the people to lecture about the ills in society he is fairly low down the list of people I'd listen to. Corrupt *word censored*

no one puts a gun to your head, you don't have to sing the songs you don't like

I won't join in and singing Nasri is a cúnt, because he ain't - Nasri leaving says more about our club than him

i expect RVP to get the same abuse, when he leaves
