As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fella you would be very wrong ,firstly I've known many Jews from the time I was very little little,my step grandfather was Jewish and was the son of a Rabbi ,and I very nearly attended the JFS in Camden when I was younger.
I've attended more Jewish Barmitzfahs, and Weddings,Funerals and stone settings, JC Dances as any Yok has ever done and I have mates from Redbridge, Southgate, Edgeware that are season ticket holders for 30 years plus at Arsenal.
I've taken in the flour at the ridding of leaven from my neighbours and relit their fires after passover.
The whole thing about Spurs gets re-hashed for no particular reason every once in a while to stir things up but I think we get a tad politically correct in this country about what we can or cannot say.
For me actions are far more important than words when it comes to fighting all racism !
Dont forget the time you were there when moses made his "big announment" on the "mountain" (more like a hill from what I've heard). Or that wanker herrod, trying to baby snatch, and you gave his boys wrong directions. Or even the time you single handedly took on that goliath fucker for david, he#ll never forget that you know. Your a fuckin legend mate.
I do love a good debate - seems to me that there certainly double standards in play when it comes to shortening some words/nationalities. How is calling a an english/british person a brit, a japanese person a jap or an Irish person a paddy deemed acceptable without the public outcry but calling a person from pakistan (or from that race) a paki deemed as racist ? Please dont tell me it is different cos of the implied racial intend behind it cos calling Irish people paddy's was also intended as a put down many years ago too but for the most part we dont find it offensive unless (as DB10 pointed) out it is used in a stereo-typing insulting way.
Of course living in rural Ireland it might be easier to have a more innocent viewpoint cos we dont have as many religions or races living in our community. Being that I am not that religious myself I dont have any prejudices towards different religions (unless there is bigotry towards me on the basis of my catholic upbringing) and would never think of using the word **** apart from using it in the context of the scum fans but now because it causes ill feeling from those in the jewish community then I avoid the use of the word cos offending someone on the basis of their race or religion would never be on my agenda.
I have to say though, and I have made this point many times before, that I take real issue with the fact that the jewish community have never made any type of a big deal with the scum fans calling themselves the **** army but yet seem willing enough to take issue with fans of other teams referring to them as **** In my opinion, and I may be naive here, but if you stop the scum fans calling themselves that then 95% of other fans would cease to reffering them as **** army also so surely stopping the use of that phrase at source (and within shite hart lane is the biggest source) would go a long way towards preventing this perceived bigotry

Tell you what mate, there are plenty of people of subcontinental heritage in the States now, why don't you go up to one of them and call them a 'Paki', see how they react?
I do. Except he's Indian so he laughs.
Sorry, but anyone who thinks shortening a word is racist is riding the PC bandwagon.
And whoever it was that compared using an abbreviation of an ethnicity to the word "coloured"...that is not the same thing. Apples and oranges. I'm not discussing whether or not "****" is racist or not, because frankly, we do not use the term here so I don't have proper input. However we call Jewish people "Jews" and that is not considered racist. We call Japanese people "Japs" and that is not considered racist. So how the fuck is the word "Paki" racist? It's the exact same concept. Seems to me that there was a PC brigade striking up, as they like to do, and now all of a sudden its racist.

To try and suggest that this has happened "all of sudden" shows how ridiculous that post is.
In the UK, this is one of the most offensive words you can use. You are probably better off staying where you are by the sounds of it.
don't call me a "paddy" - it might be the last time you speak, sorry, it will be the last time you speak
"paki" is a racist slur - I refer to people of that origin as pakistani
I was at an under 12's football game a couple of weeks back. There was a young boy of african origin playing as striker for the team I was there to support. He was having a mare in the first half but what amazed me was how people were referring to him. It was like "what's the black lad doin" "that black lad isn't at the races etc" what I found amazing is, why couldn't these people just say that lad playing up front? because when they would refer to everyone else in the team they would say that lad on the wing or a players certain number but not with this kid up front.
Racism is rife throughout the world, and unfortunately, it will always be.
To that bollocks that underminded db10 & irish society earlier on in the thread - sad f*cker u are mate

It's pretty rife in Oireland in general too, Mart. The amount of "N" word "jokes" you overhear in Oirish pubs is disgraceful.
I think because Oireland has only relatively recently become more racially mixed alot (not all, but alot) of it is "unintended" racism that stems from ignorance, lack of mixed culture experience and the closed community mindset rather than racially motivated hatred though. That of course is no excuse, but it might at least explain some of it...
