I've seen an element of racially motivated hatred around my parts but in the entire context of the nation, I doubt the racism is fuelled that way. I'd like to think not anyway. As you well know, my beautiful county, as wee as it is, is one of the strongest in terms of republican values so the acceptance of "outsiders" (as others would refer to them) wouldn't be as open-armed as other parts of the island.DB10GOONER wrote:It's pretty rife in Oireland in general too, Mart. "paki" is a racist slur - I refer to people of that origin as pakistani
I was at an under 12's football game a couple of weeks back. There was a young boy of african origin playing as striker for the team I was there to support. He was having a mare in the first half but what amazed me was how people were referring to him. It was like "what's the black lad doin" "that black lad isn't at the races etc" what I found amazing is, why couldn't these people just say that lad playing up front? because when they would refer to everyone else in the team they would say that lad on the wing or a players certain number but not with this kid up front.
Racism is rife throughout the world, and unfortunately, it will always be.
To that bollocks that underminded db10 & irish society earlier on in the thread - sad f*cker u are mate![]()

I think because Oireland has only relatively recently become more racially mixed alot (not all, but alot) of it is "unintended" racism that stems from ignorance, lack of mixed culture experience and the closed community mindset rather than racially motivated hatred though. That of course is no excuse, but it might at least explain some of it...

Surely if you're recalling as far back as the 60's then you'll remember when Arsenal finished 12th in the prem in the 1994-95 campaign, after George Graham was sacked...SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:RELEGATION

Its the 125th birthday of our wonderful institution that is called Arsenal football club.
We have seen top flight football every year since 1919 and boast a proud history.
We have had hard times, no cups of note during the 60s
No title challenges from 53-70
No FA Cup wins from 50-71 and 79-93
Long periods of wilderness and some top flight battles notably during the mid 70s
But seriously never ever in my time as a gooner have i felt so low.....this is atrocious..
I had hardly anyone text me when we lost 8-2
I have today received 20 plus texts laughing at me from QPR, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd and even a Plymouth mate of mine....all taking the piss...
I go to work on Monday knowing every kid in my skool is gonna take the piss along with my teaching colleagues.
I had to sit and watch like all Gooners the worst crock of shit i have seen in blue and white amass THREE shots on goal and score four....
ONLY THIS CIRRENT ARSENAL TEAM CAN DO THIS....NO OTHER TEAM DOES IT
Since February and that joke final we have been basically appalling.....
WE ARE RELEGATION FODDER.....AND DONT COUNT AGAINST IT HAPPENING.
You should also remember that hardly 2 years laters, in 1997-98, Arsenal won the double in what was only Wenger's second season as manager. In two years, the man took us from 12th to first.
This year, thus far, he's had the worst of luck; but no team managed by Wenger is relegation fodder.
Re: The 'R' word
You'll also remember then that Rioch took us from 12th to 5th in one season, and that Bergkamp was already at the club when Wenger arrived.piresistible wrote:Surely if you're recalling as far back as the 60's then you'll remember when Arsenal finished 12th in the prem in the 1994-95 campaign, after George Graham was sacked...SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:RELEGATION

Has something of a bearing on taking a team from 12th to 1st.
Also, I think you'll have to wait until the end of this season to see if this team are also-rans or not.

Re: The 'R' word
If we're "also rans" then we'd have had a pretty good season considering how it started. "Also rans" to me is the level we've been at for the last 4 years. Given our situation at the moment i would snatch your arm off for also rans.Kvltman wrote:You'll also remember then that Rioch took us from 12th to 5th in one season, and that Bergkamp was already at the club when Wenger arrived.piresistible wrote:Surely if you're recalling as far back as the 60's then you'll remember when Arsenal finished 12th in the prem in the 1994-95 campaign, after George Graham was sacked...SammyDroppedHisShorts wrote:RELEGATION
