Bendtner; The Leg-end

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Almost forgot to give my Bendtner mark for the match

Basically, a fucking immense performance, single handedly kept Bruce in a job in all likelihood. Great first touch on Saturday, worked his fucking balls off, linked play brilliantly, a bit of luck for the goal but followed up by a beautiful ball in for Elmohamady's goal. Star man by quite a distance and still yet to have a bad game for us, aside from possibly Norwich away where he was still about the best player we had.

Bendtner rating for the game: 9

The first time ever the number 9 has been linked with centre-forward, Nik Bendtner!

Oh, and heres a nice interview with Nicklas so you can all read his thoughts! This truly is the thread that just keeps on giving, keeping you all bang up to date. You'll like the first paragraph!

From: http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/safc- ... -29526918/

"COURAGE, fight and heart were qualities associated with the Vikings and Sunderland’s own Nordic warrior Nicklas Bendtner had plenty of that in his locker to help the Black Cats come back from the dead.Their side two-nil down after five minutes in Saturday’s encounter against West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light, those in the stands must have feared a cave-in of epic proportions.

However, step forward Bendtner who, in tandem with the impressive Stephane Sessegnon, led from the front as Sunderland pulled off a comeback to earn a point which seemed miles away after the first five minutes.

Bendtner got the ball rolling as he bagged his first goal for the club following his recent on-loan move from Arsenal, before his sublime cross from the left was headed in by Ahmad Elmohamady.

Bendtner, though, was too modest to take the acclaim for himself and hailed the character from his new team-mates for bringing Sunderland back from the brink.

He said: “What was going through my mind in the first five minutes? You do not want to know.

“I have never been involved in such a start. We showed courage, a lot of fight and a lot of heart.

“We got back quickly to 2-2 and we were unlucky not to win because we had a lot of possession in front of their goal to get in to scoring positions.

“We also had ten corners. It is a bit unfortunate, but we showed we offered a challenge. That cannot be taken away from us.

“It was a huge moment at two goals down for us, but we recovered greatly and we have to look at that rather than saying we started slowly even though it was shocking. We have to forget about the negatives. The courage and heart we showed was the key. We were shell-shocked. We had to overcome it.

“Every team is different, but at Sunderland every one looks at each other and has to trust we all give 100% every time we cross the white line for each other, for the manager, all the staff.

“As long as you have that you have a chance to get back in any game.

Bendtner was also quick to praise his gaffer, who has come under a bit of pressure given Sunderland’s recent bad run – and the Dane insisted Bruce is the ideal man for the Wearside hotseat. He added: “In training we try to evaluate everything and quickly because the next game is not far away.

“The atmosphere since I arrived has always been happy. There is always good banter and that is needed at a club.

“Everyone in training gives everything and that is what you need. You need to go in to training and be happy because that is what makes you play.

“Even here, if you find yourself out, people are there to pick you up and help you out and try to get a relationship going. That should be in every team.â€

I have now updated my signature to include the quote from the paper about Nicky's battling qualities (but dont worry, I've kept the bouncing boobs!).

Denmark's best ever striker has now left our shores to go and do battle for his country, playing in a match away in Cyprus tonight and following it up with a home game against Portugal. A win tonight guarantees his side the second place in the group, a win tonight and a win against Portugal would see them top the group. Should this happen, the Danes will have even more reason to be grateful to their best ever striker for providing the performances to get them there. Before leaving Sunderland for the international break, Bendtner told our club website "I'm really looking forward to both games", in a statement that is bound to send fear to the nations of Cyprus and Portugal.

Whilst I still rate Bendtner to call him Denmarks best ever striker is a bit rich.

Preben Elkjaer is widely considered to have that honour although jan dahl tomasson scored quite a few too .

"Finally the thread HAS COME BACK, to the first page of the online Gooner forum!"
Image

Well, having had to endure a match without bendtner in which we hoofed the ball to a 5 foot 5 lad who was being marked by a fucking giant (thanks Bruce, you tactical genius you), it's good to hear that this time bendtner, who is still wiping ronaldos blood from his hands having slayen Portugal, will be up front, probably with a strike partner (wickham). I'll give a detailed report later on how he links up with another front man.
He's been in the press this week saying it's time for us to perform on the pitch and has won even more of our fans over for not following bruce's bullshit about the fans "expecting" too much (apparently expecting more than 4 wins in a calendar year and not being happy with going out of cups to Brighton and notts county makes us unreasonable!).
Despite being shite, 4,000 of us have gone to Bolton and we're all pretty certain that nicky will send us home with something to sing about.
Tune into the thread later for a full bendtner report!
