The 'R' word

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Good point mate.................... but gotta ask ourselves why we continue to
repeat the same mistakes that have dogged us over the last few seasons, how we somehow contrive to lose games that are won and throw away points
in a lack of tactical and defensive nous that at this stage is bordering on ridiculous.

"paki" is a racist slur - I refer to people of that origin as pakistani

I was at an under 12's football game a couple of weeks back. There was a young boy of african origin playing as striker for the team I was there to support. He was having a mare in the first half but what amazed me was how people were referring to him. It was like "what's the black lad doin" "that black lad isn't at the races etc" what I found amazing is, why couldn't these people just say that lad playing up front? because when they would refer to everyone else in the team they would say that lad on the wing or a players certain number but not with this kid up front.

Racism is rife throughout the world, and unfortunately, it will always be.

To that bollocks that underminded db10 & irish society earlier on in the thread - sad f*cker u are mate
But is it racist to refer to 'that ginger kid up front'?

I'm not sure it would be racially intended. I definitely would not say 'that black kid...', as some may be offended or consider it racist, but I think a lot of it defends on context mate!

Mate, we have no chance of being relegated, I assure you.

We're not great, but seriously we're not half as bad as people are making out. We'll win games and throw many away, but that's more than enough to stay WELL AWAY from relegation.

I still think top 6... but hey, I guess I'm blinded by "The Arsenal brand" :?
Still think top 6? Definitely blinded.
I don't ever bump old threads, as I tihnk knee jerk reactions are part of human nature, but Yankee was so condescending and patronising towards all Arsenal fans who don't think we'll be relegated, that it needs to be done.

It's a game of opinions, and if you think we could be relegated then fine... but to say the rest of us are "blinded by the Arsenal brand" for thinking we'll stay up is disrespectful to say the least.

I'm not blinded by anything or anyone. I have an opinion... and in this case, a considered one. And I'll stick by it. WE HAVE NO CHANCE OF BEING RELEGATED!

And yes, I even put my money where my mouth was and bet £50 with Frankbutcher that we'd be 6th (or was it 7th?) or above. I still think we can do it... and if we do, then that's £50 for Bob Wilson's charity, The Willow Foundation.

Anyway, we're on 19 points... that's nearly half way to survival after only 11 games... and we're 13pts ahead of the relegation zone, too. 8) Arsene knows

this is a forum of extremists, so if we start diggind old posts, there'll be a lot of people with huge eggs on their faces

i remember people wanting to shoot koscielny (who now almost looks like baresi  ), people saying we'd be relegated for sure, and i remember VERY WELL people not long ago saying we should sell van persie for whatever people would pay us, simply because he was too injury prone to be an arsenal player

i also remember people here being furious a few weeks back when we gave the verminator, our best centreback since sol campbell, a new contract

it's easy to spot the HUGE mistakes that our manager and board made in the last few seasons, but we say a lot more bullshit in here than wenger does at press conferences, and that is a fucking lot!

by the way, i also remember a stupid tranvestite in here who said we'd win the treble a few seasons back

These are the only clubs who might finish above Arsenal

You'll be 7th at the very worst, and most likely either 5th or 6th.

Talk of relegation is utterly fucking mental tbh

You're absolutely right mate. Obviously I support a team that has been relegated (plenty of times, including being the worst ever PL side twice in a row) and who have flirted with relegation and just survived. I think by now I have a decent idea of teams which will struggle badly and teams which wont. Arsenal are miles away from being relegation threatened. I know people are saying that the last 17 games or so are relegation form (and they are) but a lot of that was played when Arsenal at least thought there was nothing to play for. Over the course of a full season you are nowhere near bad enough to go down and, much though he is far from flavour of the month, Wenger hasnt suddenly gone from a great manager to a manager bad enough to relegate Arsenal.

There is an obvious problem with confidence (or the lack thereof) and there is a lack of leadership in the club and Wenger needs to take a lot of the blame for this. Despite this, as you rightly say, there is a hell of a lot of shit in this league and you will pick up points almost by default. There will be plenty of games where teams arent good enough to get at your admittedly very poor defensive unit, and there will be games where the oppositions poor defence lets you get a few goals ahead. Having a very good keeper will pick you up some points as well. I know the Newcastle game showed you can throw almost any lead away, but it wont happen every time, far from it.

Time will tell of course, but I'm 95% confident that your opinion and mine that you'll be at least 8th will be proven to be correct, quite easily. This league is absolutely shite after the first 6 or 7 clubs and people are really overestimating the situation if they think you're bad enough to finish 18th
Hate to be right like, but, yet again  . Seriously though, some gooners I think just wanted to feel as if they supported a lower half side when in reality they were never anywhere near it and were never going to be. Trust me lads, unless you're pretty old. you dont know what its like to support a side actually troubled by relegation

How about this for a beauty

I'm genuinely surprised to see people thinking we can get a point here. Seriously. We couldn't get a point at bloody Ewood Park!!! Stamford Bridge? Torres will kill Mert and Kos imo I'm afraid. Defeat here, love to be proved wrong with a win though

Oh, I agree mate.

That's why, instead of the rosetinter/realist bullshit, I prefer to think of it as moderate (fans with views both positive and negative that lie within certain boundaries) and extremists (posters with extreme views of either a positive or negative nature, such as USMartin, redmember, Mikey, Baba, etc.).

I'd say, about 95% of this forum fits into the moderate category, and only 5% extreme... but that 5% make one hell of a noise!

true. and you'll find those characters everywhere in life to be honest. i have a coworker who says our boss is the most stupid ever and will end up fucking the company up, just as others who suck his balls and say he is the new messiah - when in truth, he is just a regular boss with qualities and defects, just like everyone.

some people just tend to be extremist about everything, and it's understandable. life becomes a bit boring if you don't exaggerate somethings sometimes. the problem is that they tend to do it all the time

but i have to agree with bababullshit, arteta isn't bringing anything to this team that denilson wasn't doing before :coffeespit:
