Has everyone forgotten?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why would you want to win the MM FA cup when everybody knows finishing 4th is the best trophy ever

But love is blind and lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit;
For if they could, Cupid himself would blush
To see me thus transformed to a boy.

Keep sucking Wenger's jacksy!

You have got to know absolutely nothing about football to come out with a statement like that.

Or it really is a wind up, getting so hard to tell these days what with frankbutcher achieving demi-god status lately.

Fabregas would have been one of the most sought after talents in the whole of Europe when we took him in. That Barcelona were still mega fucked off about the way we nicked him 8 years later should tell you all you need to know about that.

Henry at the time was a transfer in excess of £10million pounds. Hardly a punt. Added to the fact that Juve had taken a "punt" on him just one year earlier should again tell you all you need to know about that.

Wenger gets his praise for shaping those players and moulding them into genuine top class performers, that is never disputed.

What is hotly disputed is that he cannot do it anymore. The talent he is identifying and bringing in is not of equal standard and cannot be moulded to the same quality as before. When this wanes questions have to be asked.

Best point about Wenger now is to look at all the players he let go over the years when he thought they had peaked and couldn't offer as much as before. The list will be long with a host of great names, Vieira, Ljungberg, Gilberto, Campbell, Toure, Overmars.

He has been great at it.

His managerial capabilities should be held to the same standard.

He is now on the wane and he will not be able to comeback to his previous high standards. It is getting embarassing to see just how far he is sliding from greatness but more than that it is getting really annoying to watch him bumble around making the same mistakes whilst insisting upon things like "greatest squad ever".

what has Redknapp won apart from the Mickey Mouse Cup?
when was the last time Liverpool won the league?
When is Moyes going to win something with Everton?
will Newcastle ever win anything?
would City have ever won anything without the arabs?
would Chelsea have won the league without Abramovich?

only Ferguson can say he has been a better manager than Wenger since the PL started
Oh come on, you cannot compare Liverpool to Everton or Newcastle. I mean, they've won the European Cup and UEFA Cup since their last league title.

What has he got to work with. in a players mind what would you do. stay at arsenal or go to a club that offers you more money, your surrounded by big names and the fans sing your name all game and there is a quality atmosphere at all home games.

Im not saying he should stay but he doesn't deserve all this abuse.

I actually don't think this is a wind up.

OP is a student, therefore no older than 21. It means Wenger took over when he was 6 - He doesn't know what Arsenal was like before Wenger. Arsenal = Arsene to him. The clouded memories people are hashing of winning the league at Anfield, and losing only one game in 1991 (almost as good as going a whole season unbeaten, eh?), and being the first side to win BOTH domestic cups (when they both still meant something)... well, they mean fuck all to someone who was wearing nappies and talking gibberish....

Tbf im 21 and i think Wenger should fuck off 8)

However you're probably onto something, went to meet up with some of my student mates the other day (we just graduated) and i said to one of em "loyalty to the club, not the man" and his genuine reply was "No, loyalty to the man".

What the fuck can you do with that? Mental.

Fair play, I guess you have probably delved more into Arsenal's history and appreciate the likes of Graham never had a six year barren spell and Wenger's form is fairly unprescendented and we've not had a worse period since the early 80s.

It does irk me that the people who declare undying love to Wenger are the people who never had an interest in Arsenal before he arrived, and probably never watched football pre Euro 96/Fantasy Football League/Soccer AM etc
