WENGER interview admits to summer of discontent

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

What surprises me most about that comment by Wenger is the amount of people - and less surprisingly, the media - who took his words too literally.

Surely when he said "I expect no one to leave" he WASN'T meaning that no one would leave (because clearly they would) but that he wasn't resigned to it... that nothing was certain... that negotiations with clubs were ongoing...that nothing had been signed and sealed.

That's how I took his comments.

After all, why would he mean that no one would be leaving when he'd already told us that Bendtner and Almunia were free to look for clubs...?

I just think people are so eager to condemn Wenger, that they're trying too hard to misinterpret him.

There's plenty to legitimately attack him over... but this is just petty.
I thought about posting something similar to this. Wenger is an educated bloke. People expect him to dumb down to somesort of Redknapp level just so they can understand what he's saying.

No one is asking for dumbing down or Redknapp levels of shite just a bit of honesty and to drop the need to 'interpret' his statements, is it too much to ask?

You accused him of being a liar though mate. Not everyone needs to interpret his statements - you can't keep everyone happy.

So why not come out and say it how it is? 'There might be some out and some in'... See the truth!! no need for interpreters, nothing can be twisted, doesnt let any cats out the bag so to speak.

Just plain and simple. Instead of saying blatent lies.

He needs to realise us supporters care about what he says, the purpose of his statements isnt to play cat and mouse with reporters its to let us know whats going on and embarrassingly we hang on his every word like the footballing man-children we are.

Wenger has no problems getting what he regards as facts out when it regards ref's, assault tackling or tapping up why when it involves transfers?

They aren't blatant lies. Like I said, you can't keep everyone happy. Arsenal have always had the policy of not talking about transfers - why would you think they will change it now?

I think we'll just have to disagree with each other!
