It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.
My bird did it last year and is running again next year, even supporting was an amazing experience so I can only imagine how it feels to actually complete it!
Alot of hard work but ultimately worth every second of pain! Good luck mate!

never a marathon, only a 10k run. And I was in the shit afterwards. There is a very specific set of training you have to follow in order to run a marathon properly

Done the Dublin Marathon a couple of years ago (I fancied Dublin as a better place to have a few celebratory beers after).
A Marathon is worth doing but you need to get yourself a proper training plan.
Once you get to 13-15 miles run stage on you plan and you feel like you cannot do any more drop the pace buy 30 seconds per mile and it should be plain sailing.
1 note of caution - after I done the marathon I had lost what little pace I did have for playing football. My legs had gone as anyone who had played in the Mackams game can testify.
Another piece of advice - don't go straight from the race onto a 10 hour drinking session. Apparently it can dehydrate you.
Also, not sure why but most of my toenails fell off after a couple of days

I was going to post similar.
But I didn't. Because Sid beat us to it.
A mate ran the London marathon two years ago. He found it far tougher than envisaged. He was really looking forward to a big post-run meal. Followed by a nice beerathon. Couldn't do it because he had cramps and vomiting for hours after. Don't know if this is common?
Both times i did it i could walk for a good few days (but could still drink ).
Honestly, its one of the hardest things you will ever do, and one of the best as well. Train properly, but you seriously dont need to be running 20 miles + before the main event - i reckon getting up to 15-16 is sufficient and then just pull the big one out the bag on the day.
Hill training is a great way to start, builds up the legs and then get going on the runs - load up on Arsenal podcasts to keep you going.
Good luck, and when you've done it nobody can take the medal away from you (unless you live on Merseyside)
I'm sure I heard that the London Marathon is some kind of ballot. They get more entrants than they need, so is it possible to register and that but not actually get accepted?

Yep, and you pay to enter "the ballot" - got lucky the first time, last year i got a place through a chairty - easyy, but need to raise a minimum of £1500.....

For the Dublin marathon if you apply on time you get in.
Main reasons I went for Dublin were:
Its a good place to celebrate.
It's late in the year (oct or November) as I don't like the sun. The London marathon in April has the potential of being the first hot weekend of the year after you have trained through the winter.

Aaah mate, you just outed yourself as a ginger.
Word to the wise, don't run the Dublin marathon ever again, now that DB10's knows you're a day walker he'll have your ears for that chain he wears round his neck, Universal Soldier style.

Bloody hell no5 you should work for interplod
I knew I would get caught out once I dropped my guard. I even played on the mackams fans game with a wig to hide it.
Still only a couple of years until I can celebrate being bald and I can go out in public again
