Andre Santos

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Andre Santos

Post by Eboue-Why? »

Throughtout the magnificent win today, I kept on looking and wondering why we signed him! Yep, he scored an important goal (with the aid of crap goalkeeping it has to be said) and improved in the 2nd half but I'm nearly 86 years old, in a wheelchair and I reckon I could still beat him in a one on one.
I don't know if he's trying to get used to the English game but he's been breathing through his arse in every game so far.
Hope I'm proved wrong but at this moment I'm wondering whether his Turkish scout was pissed in the summer!!

Don't know why but a tune for Santos has just popped into my head.

As bG probably said here, the man has less marking power then my grandfather.

He's 28 he won't miraculously learn how to mark and I really don't rate him. But after he scored he played very, very well

Yeah, perhaps you're right. I just found myself yelling at him a lot today!!

But I'm just surprised that knowing as we do that Wenger likes his players to be nippy, athletic and mobile, in the absence of Gibbs teams are gonna exploit him as the weakest part of the defence

Probably gonna get slated, but I actually quite like the guy. Needs to definitely work on his positioning & maybe reign in his attacking play a touch but I don't think he's any worse than Clichy was.

I agree, he was shocking as was Djourou in that first half for me but tonight they are all heroes.

In fairness to him he did pull himself together but still not good enough.

Has equalled Clichy's goal tally in fuck all games :barscarf:

But I do know what u mean. I'll reserve judgement until we see him get a run in the team.

Agreed. He's really likeable imo. Has passion as well unlike that robot Clichy. Suddenly I'm starting to like most of our players...

Must be something about Stamford Bridge that our left backs enjoy

Winterburn
Sylvinho
Santos

All scored out of the blue goals there.

I'm quite hopeful about him.

He's strong, good on the ball, passes fairly well, can put in a tackle and seems to have a footballing brain.

Given that he is a Brazilian, who arrived from Turkey at the eleventh hour, into a different culture with a very different style of football I think we should give him a couple of months to settle in.

Even TH and DB took a while to get going.

Besides (and I'm not sure tactically why) in today's game all four fullbacks looked exposed (possibly lack of cover in front of them).

I was glad to see Jenkinson come on - funny how things change.....
