Arsenal’s lack of experience finally tells (3/3)

usual thread starter… sorry for the downbeat nature of this one. Is anyone optimistic out there? Yes, we are top of the league, but do you think you are watching champions in the making at the moment?

champions?
Trying to be optimistic ed, hoping things will improve although feel like we are just hanging on at the moment.....
Hopefully the point gained (rather than two lost) from our last minute goal could be the turning point.

Lack of experience
Well there`s nothing like being optimistic! After reading the article I was thinking lucky the writer is not a Newcastle or Derby fan or for that matter a fan of nearly all the other teams in the Premiership he would have hung himself from the nearest lampost.
I can`t deny we are not having the best of times recently but have a bit of faith as I`m confident we will come through it and win the Premiership and if we can get past Milan who knows maybe even the Champions League.

While I can understand your frustrations and doubts, the fact is that we totally dominated possession against one of the teams considered amongst the best of the challengers to the top 4.
There is a very fine dividing line between success and failure in football, which then has a massive impact and confidence, and this can then give players an extra reserve of energy at this stage of the season.
On Saturday the passing was poor all round, our most creative players, Hleb and Cesc, had a bad day, whilst Ade has been floundering a bit the last few games.
If we can have a few good performances against Milan (even getting knocked out) , Wigan and Boro, to get the confidence back up then there is no reason we can get back on a roll for the big games coming up. I thought we would get rolled over by Chelsea away last season, but we pulled a fantastic performance out of the bag, and were unlucky not to win, so it can be done.
The momentum and confidence which have gone awol since the FA cup game, can just as quickly return.
I only get to a few games a season these days, so I cant have a go at the "tourist" supporters too much. I do sing and shout because I just cant help myself, but on Saturday I really noticed how quiet it was around us. I was in the upper tier above the Villa fans, so most of the noise was coming from down there but what really got me was that we had empty seats either side of us until 10 and 20 minutes into the second half. At 46 quid a ticket surely a pint and a burger can wait until after the game! I have even stopped having a pint before the game to avoid the call of nature.
Every single point is so vital that the fans cant just make noise when things are going well, but need to gee them up when things are not so great.

gooner ed. you ought to be shot for the front page title in the latest Gooner. smacks of arrogance and complacency and saves the madman in charge of the muppets having to give a motivating team talk. you`ve done it for them.
well done. if we dont win the league, no doubt you will do the honourable thing and resign. I hope you don`t have to resign and we can all look back at all the doom and gloom postings and articles throughout the season as the rubbish i believe them to be.
oh and how about supporting my campaign that the ade song should never be sung until he has scored a goal. i believe song has inflated his already big ego and does nothing for confidence of rest of team who may hear song and think rest of team aint up to scoring. ade never scores when the song is being sung and he has been essentially useless last few games
see you in milan maybe. we know a terrific micro brewery pub only i aint........

I absolutely hate these defeatist postings after a game. It's akin to these jonny come latelys at the grove who moan & groan for 75 minutes (as the whiney twats never stay for the 90) before sodding off to post arse on their blog
If you're a fan then support the team otherwise feck off & follow the chavs

I've gotta admit, on Saturday I felt the same as the ed. When the goal went in, everyone around me was going ballistic, but I felt pretty contained - relieved not to lose, but knowing 1-1 still wasn't really good enough. Most of all, you could see that in the players. The crowd were still going nuts, but the players trudged off with heads down.
On reflection though, this was definitely 1 point gained rather than 2 lost. Aston Villa are a very good team, who are rightly challenging for the last Champions league spot, and who had far better chances to wrap up the game long before Nik's equaliser.
And absolutely crucially, we are still top of the league. To have lost at home and fallen to second place would've been a psychological blow too hard to handle. Staying top, even by the most paper thin of margins, was vital.
In my mind, the next two games settle it for me. If we progress tomorrow night and get a win on a difficult away day to Wigan, anything is possible, particularly with RVP finally about to rejoin the fray.

actually the owner of the gooner came up with that one. he who pays the piper...
Ed & Kanubayor I fully agree with you.
I really expected us to be in full voice, but the atmosphere was terrible. I've seen a few positings (rightly) condeming the Eduardo song - however I can't help but feel if we actually made some noise ourselves then no-one would've heard it. (Or at the very least their song should have triggered a full voiced response to drown out any repeat performances).
Regardless of how palatable we found certain songs - Villa did sing for pretty much the whole game, where were we?

I'm afraid I agree with the original article. The team have performed and succeeded far more than I expected, but although I've got a lot of respect for Arsene I don't agree with his transfer policy particularly as we have funds available. He always buys unproven players and has had good success with this policy but I think there is a need to also buy proven players.
If we had bought Torres at the start of the season for instance we would be out of sight of the other teams by now. £25 million well spent. It's all very well preparing for the future but we pay to see Arsenal winning things now. I've followed Arsenal since the sixties so I know what it's like not to win trophies for years at a time. But now we're a big club with resources available I really think we should be using them more wisely.
Oh well at least we can look forward to St Totteringham's Day at the weekend.

I admit to being a glass half full person. The emotion surrounding the events of last week has certainly taken its toll on me too, so I'm delighted how the boys lifted themselves 'right at the end' - 2 seconds of the added 3 minutes left on Andy Gray's 'Final Word' - so shut it Mr Stopwatch Fergusmoan or we'll remind you again about Sheffield Wednesday!
I agree it would have been a disaster to have lost on Saturday. ManUre are playing out of their skins and I too feel that if they get their noses in front they will be almost impossible to catch.
Hence the psychological boost of that late goal. It may be just enough to get the boys back on track. We have to hope so.
And cheer up Kevin W - it feels like you're doing a Gallas!
