I BLAME ARSENE WENGER
Maybe I was being a bit dramatic when I stated that blowing the league would be a massive cock up but what I meant was that it would be a huge balls up when you consider the opportunity we have and didnt take advantage of it as a result of a refusal to strengthen when necessary. Yes I agree that from what I expected pre season the team has exceeded itself but again I cannot escape from the fact that for the first time in a few years we have a real chance of winning this league and should we not win the league because we were not good enough or luck was against us then I could accept that but IF we fail because of a lack of depth in the squad then in my opinion that borders on the criminal.
It should be remembered that last season wenger himself pointed to our squad size as a major factor in a poor season so to address that by selling the club record scorer and buying just 2 players makes zero sense to me
Yes I do agree that buying is no assurance of success but if we were to fail then I would rather do so in the knowledge that we did everything possible to put this squad in the best possible position to succeed rather than the theory that we sat still and hoped that we would survive without injuries and suspensions
I will also agree that signings in liverpool seem to have had an adverse effect on them but to me it seems that they have little thought in their dealings and buy average players but in wenger we have a man who has one of the best reputations in the world for spotting talent so are we saying that he cannot locate even 2 players that would make us stronger ? I am not advocating wholesale buying but there is no doubt that we need 2 or 3 quality signings at the moment(which I know we cant do) to make this squad one that is feared everywhere.
It also seems to me that of late those that are defending wenger's reluctance to buy are indicating that the board are dictating our budget to spend. Now my dislike/distrust of the board is well documented but I have to say again that people defending wenger's lack of signings need to make up their minds - is the money available and wenger isnt using it or is the transfer budget all a myth put out to quell the anti-board feeling ? As I stated before if we fail and that failure is directly linked to a failure to strengthen the squad then someone has to accept responsibility for that failure.
Lastly IHH I would like to ask you that should the worst happen and we end up finishing 2nd or even 3rd what would your analysis of why we didnt win the league read ? You have always stated that you are a pessimist by nature so why did you think this season would be a stuggle ? Are you saying that you are 100% happy with everything at the moment ? I understand your principle of not turning on your own but at the same time it has to be said that your username of I hate hleb wasnt always tounge in cheek so insulting my opinions as diatribes is more than a little bit hypocritical dont you think

BUT YOU'VE CLAIMED ALL ALONG THAT WE WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH SO WHAT ARE YOU MOANING FOR? IF WE DON'T WIN IT YOU CAN SIT THERE FEELING NICE AND SMUG CLAIMING 'I KNEW THAT ALL ALONG'. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THAT YOU DIDN'T THINK WE WOULD WIN THE TITLE, IT'S THE FACT THAT DESPITE THE TEAM SURPRISING ALL OF US WITH THEIR STRONG START TO THE SEASON AND CONTINUED PRESENCE AT THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE, ALL THE WHILE YOU HAVE BEEN DOING NOTHING BUT WHINGING!!

AGAIN, THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES - EVEN WITH WENGER. HE HAS ALSO MADE PLENTY OF DUD SIGNINGS IN THE PAST (NORMALLY WHEN PAYING BIG MONEY) AND GENERALLY HAS MORE SUCCESS WHEN BUYING CHEAP, YOUNG RELATIVE UNKNOWNS.
I ANSWERED THAT IN MY EARLIER POST. THE BOARD SET A TRANSFER BUDGET AND WENGER DECIDES WHETHER AND ON WHOM HE WANTS TO SPEND IT. WHAT YOU DIDN'T ANSWER IN YOUR LAST POST WAS WHAT SHOULD THE CLUB DO IN HOLDING WENGER ACCOUNTABLE LIKE YOU WANT: SACK HIM? FORCE HIM TO SPEND THE MONEY? OR BUY PLAYERS ABOVE HIS HEAD? I AM GENUINELY INTERESTED IN YOUR SOLUTION.augie wrote: It also seems to me that of late those that are defending wenger's reluctance to buy are indicating that the board are dictating our budget to spend. THE TRUTH IS NONE OF US EXPECTED ARSENAL TO WIN THE LEAGUE SO MY ANALYSIS OF A 2ND OR 3RD PLACE FINISH WOULD BE FIRSTLY RELIEF WE HAD FINISHED IN THE TOP FOUR, WHICH MANY DOUBTED WE'D DO; SECONDLY, THERE MOST CERTAINLY WOULD BE A TINGE OF SADNESS THAT WE COULDN'T QUITE PULL IT OFF; ONCE THAT WORE OFF THOUGH I WOULD FEEL PRIDE THAT WE COMPETED SO WELL AND FOR SO LONG AT THE TOP OF THE TABLE WITH TEAMS THAT HAVE SPENT AND COULD AFFORD TO SPEND MULTI-MILLIONS MORE THAN US; AND LASTLY, I WOULD EXPECT WENGER TO MAKE A COUPLE OF PURCHASES IN THE SUMMER TO BUILD ON THIS SEASON'S ACHIEVEMENTS.
NO, NOT 100% BUT WHEN IS ANYONE? FECK ME, WE'RE TOP OF THE LEAGUE AND IT APPEARS YOU'RE NOT EVEN 25% HAPPY, LET ALONE 100%!! AS FOR ME, LIKE MOST REASONABLE MINDED GOONERS, I'M CERTAINLY MORE CONTENT THEN I THOUGHT I WOULD BE AND ACTUALLY WAS PRE-SEASON. ALAS YOU SEEM TO HAVE KEPT THAT SAME SUMMER PERSONA OF DOOM AND GLOOM, DESPITE THE RESULTS.augie wrote: Are you saying that you are 100% happy with everything at the moment ?... :
EQUATING MY CHOICE OF USERNAME WHERE I POKE FUN AT HLEB, TO ME CALLING YOUR MAINLY MOANING POSTS 'DIATRIBES', AND THEN CONCLUDING THAT IT MEANS I AM BEING HYPOCRITICAL IS ALSO NONSENSE AND YOU KNOW IT. I EXPECTED A BETTER ARGUEMENT THAN THAT FROM YOU, NOT A CHEAP SHOT.augie wrote: I understand your principle of not turning on your own but at the same time it has to be said that your username of I hate hleb wasnt always tounge in cheek so insulting my opinions as diatribes is more than a little bit hypocritical dont you think![]()

I HAVE NEVER HAD THE PRINCIPLE OF NOT TURNING ON YOUR OWN - YOU'RE MISTAKING ME FOR SMOOTHIE - BECAUSE I ALSO CUZ AND SHOUT WHEN THE TEAM AND PLAYERS AREN'T PERFORMING AND GETTING RESULTS. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT AT ALL. IT'S WHEN THE TEAM ARE DOING WELL THAT I DON'T COMPREHEND IT!!

As I said about myself in my post I think this is getting to us all as none of us expected to be where we are and now we have it in our hands (and it is in our hands) none of us quite know what to think!
Even on here you can feel the tension which is why I didn't post for a week as I was going ballistic after the Birmingham game and my heart then went out of it for a few days!
We all have out views and they are all valid! We just need to keep in mind I think that our situation is making all of us edgy and we are all going through the mill a bit!

Honestly IHH I wasnt intending to have a cheap shot at you. However I was trying to remind you that at times we all criticise our own and many have gone a lot further than me both on this forum and at games - I have mentioned already that I felt really sorry for diaby with the stick he received saturday but players like cesc were also getting stick from many around me. What I do take issue with though is your description of my opinions as diatribe - you should feel free to either agree or disagree with them but dont disrespect me or preach down to me like your opinion is always right or the only one that matters. I think you will find that when you make a point that I agree with I will actually say so and history has also shown that I will acknowledge when I am wrong in my opinion or if I insult another member but lately it seems that it is open season on insulting people on this forum.
Anyway to respond to your statement that I havent said how wenger should be accountable then yes you are right I havent express how because to put it simply I dont know how. What I do know is that I am not happy for wenger to be allowed pursue his own agenda of building a league winning team for peanuts without being rebuked if it goes tits up. I really would love to have to come on here in may starting a thread saying "I am augie and I got it wrong" if we win the league and to suggest that I would rather be in a position to come on here and say I told you so is laughable.
As Gooners we may all have differing opinions on here as to the best way to acheive success but out in the footballing world I would much rather have a league success to throw at the mancs,y*ds,scousers etc and admit I was wrong on here than to be proved right and listen to them gloating *word censored* all summer long - to suggest otherwise is ridiculous
