Truly a great.

Hauled himself out of poverty to the Championship of the World.

Wrongly labelled as an Uncle Tom by Ali.

Fought in two of the best fights of all time...the clash of the unbeaten Champs vs Ali in Madison Square Garden...and the epic "Thrilla In Manilla".

One of the toughest men to ever step in the ring, and kept his dignity through a tough life.

RIP Joe one of the greatest when heavyweight boxing was at its peak. I hope he made his peace with Ali before he passed.

I read that they actually have been "friends" for the last two years, although not sure I fully believe it, would be great if they did put their differences behind them.

2009 documentary, 9 parts all available on YouTube.

Really interesting. I never knew much about Joe/Ali today, other than the basics, but it seems like Joe is the real champion.

Later edit: Admittedly a seemingly very biased documentary.

Now this is just my opinion but I have to say that as much as Ali is seen as the greatest of all time, for me smoking Joe will go down in pure boxing terms as a better fighter than Ali.

What has made Ali “the greatest of all timeâ€

I agree.
Frazier beat Ali in 1971.
In the Thrilla in Manila in 1975 Frazier couldn´t see from Round 10.
Later Ali admitted once that he would have asked his coach to throw the towel only moments after Fraziers coach Eddie Futch stopped the fight. So all in all this fight could have ended with a win for Frazier or as a draw.

Ali fought Liston twice won both,Frazier 3 times won 2,Foreman won,Norton 3 times won 2.Ali never ducked anyone. No other heavyweight fought the quality of fighters Ali did

When Ali fought Frazier he had been out of the ring for 4 years and had just two warm up fights before their fight it was much too soon.

As for Frazier winning the 3rd fight his trainer Eddie Futch pulled him out in the 14th round as he was getting well beaten.Would Futch have pulled him out of the figth if he was winning with just 3 mins to go? Ali was ahead by 6,5 and 4 points on the judges scorecards going into the final round

Just look what Ali did to the unbeatable Foreman who absolutley destroyed Frazier twice.Ali never took a beating in his prime like Joe did in that first fight with Foreman. What made Ali so great was his bravery, fighting 10 rounds with a broken jaw v Norton, rope a dope against the fearsome Foreman.Stopped just once and that was the mismatch v the underated Holmes when he was 38

No Frazier was a good fighter but Ali was the greatest heavyweight his record proves it

http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=180&cat=boxer
All fair points, but for me Fraiser was winning by a round by the end of the 14th. As for foreman, I still to this day hate watching the rumble in the jungle. As amazing as it was for Ali to pull of that victory, again in pure boxing terms, it was horrific. As you've said Ali could take one hell of a beating, and this along with his speed were his main atributes. Foreman basically punches Ali for seven rounds till he couldnt punch no more, "rope a dope", no its called taking punches and isnt a smart tactic.

For Ali and Fraiser boils down to their fights, and in my opinion Fraiser was winning in the third (There were a lot of very close hard to score rounds admittadley). When Fraisers style mixed with Ali's for me Fraiser came out on top.

As for best of all time, if it was just on records that would have to be Rocky Marciano.
