give Gary Lewin a Knighthood

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Well I am sorry but the facts are stacked against you!

The Upson incident is myth pure and simple!

As for Keown how the hell would Lewin know he had a tiny fracture.....you yourself said it wasn't a break and no x-ray were done and in the absence of X-ray specs how the hell would Lewin know? If the player says he is ok to carry on then what can he do? Plenty of players have played on only to find they had a small fracture later as the only sign at the time is discomfort and maybe some bruising! It is not like a pulled muscle where the leg movement is restricted and so the player simply cannot continue!

If you want a debate that is worth having then look at both sides before you come out with such toss! Facts such as.........

Eduardo's care last week!

John Terry in the Carling Cup Final....you might not like him but Gary Lewin was professional and realised what had happened and treated him correctly instantly!

Viera's muscle problems in his leg and lower back that was nursed for years by Lewin allowing him to play freely!

All the well documented help given to Merson during his dark days!

The fact that despite protests that he gets insider info on players injuries from other clubs and that this puts him in a positon to advantage Arsenal, he is still England's physio after many years as he is regarded as the best!

I could go on but I am not sure I have the strength to debate with someone who believes terrace bullshit and and lack of X-ray vision as good reason to discredit someone who has served Arsenal loyally and so well!

Terrace gossip? I remember the game - do not fucking insult me like that. Upson was put back on the pitch for a good five minutes - that is Lewin's decision. When he comes off the x-ray shows he has broken his leg. That is a fact, not terrace gossip.

Vieira's problems were nursed by Lewin? Unlikely as Arsenal have a team of masseurs and therapists to take care of this type of thing to get people through.

Merson? Okay he was a great confidante to a lad who was wasting his talent.

I don't disagree that Gary Lewin has served Arsenal greatly over the years and he is a great Arsenal man with a huge reputation in the game. However, I do not like the guy and I do not think he is the great physio some would have him be.

Knighthood? I don't think so. But he certainly deserves honours for his service to Arsenal and to England - well over 100 games speaks for itself.

If you seriously believe that physiotherapists ask players to "run off" a broken leg then you are deluded and I am sorry if you find that insulting!

There are many different types of fracture, not all are as graphic as Eduardo's and are only picked up at a later stage with the use of technology!

As for Viera sure it may have been the masseurs who did a lot of the hands on work but a huge part of physiotherapy is about designing recovery programs as well as regimes that keep long term problems in check and manageable. These programs and regimes would have been drawn up by Lewin and carried out by him with the help of others. It is not all running on the pitch with a magic sponge and a tube of deep heat for fucks sake!

My questions to you are would Wenger as the master of all things physical and psychological as well as tactical and technical still have Lewin at the club if he was not the best at what he does? Would the club put in Lewin's hands a multi-million pound squad of assets if he is not a great physio?

I'm deluded? Okay. Didn't realise you had a medical degree.

And that's a grown up comment worthy of debate is it?

How about this!

Did you hear Lewin say to Upson "it may well be your legs broke but try and run it off there's a good lad" or similar? No, I doubt anyone did so therefore I would say it is gossip!

Or how about commenting on the factual responses I have given you

I think I did a couple of posts back. The same one where I say how Lewin is a true Arsenal man...

But you choose not to answer the two questions I put in front of you though?

Sorry just trying to have the grown up factual debate you lambasted me for not providing you with earlier!

Glad you agree though he is an Arsenal man!

I have no doubt he is considered the best by Arsenal and by Arsene. That's fair enough, but I just don't like him. Please don't make the next question "who should replace him then?" :)

YOU CAN'T EXPECT PEOPLE TO TAKE YOUR COMMENTS SERIOUSLY WHEN THE ONLY THING YOU CAN SAY AGAINST LEWIN IS 'I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM'.

COME ON DVBRISGOONER1, I KNOW YOU'RE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN THAT.

Thanks for the complement IHH!!

Suffice to say that Mr Lewin may not be as popular with certain Arsenal players (or ex players) as some of you may imagine.

You will excuse me, I hope, if I do not say how I know this.
