Confirmed - police say he hung himself at home. Horrible situation. I expect the next few days will be full of speculation as to why.
Very very sad news.

Terrible news, condolences to his friends and family

RIP Gary Speed

At 42 as well such a shock, heard at first it was 'nervous exhaustion' but the times have confirmed he killed himself. Dunno what the poor guy was going through for him to do that. Weird seeing him on football focus only yesterday

R.I.P Gary, horrible news about a true premier league legend.
Horrible for his family as well if the reported cause of death is true.

I watched him on it yesterday as well.

Just doesn't seem right.

Very sad news :(

Was a fantastic player - especially in his Leeds days.

One of my favourite memories as a young gooner was an FA Cup battle against Leeds in the FA Cup in 1993.

A great tie (think we drew 2-2, then won 3-2 in the replay?) against a very good Leeds team, and, in those days, Speed was a young player who always had that dangerous knack of scoring goals from midfield (a bit like Rob Lee at Newcastle, around the same time). My memory is hazy, but I'm sure he scored.

My thoughts are with his family.

Absolutely stunned and cannot believe it
It is the kind of news that brings a lump to the throat no matter who you support. The fact that is was suicide just makes it so much harder to comprehend.

Sincere condolences to his family and friends

RIP Gary

It just goes to show that anyone can have their own personal demons regardless of their persona to the outside world. Hopefully this terrible incident and Stan Collymore's tweets earlier this week will raise awareness and lift the stigma surrounding depression and anxiety.
