BBC saying terms agreed but nothing on SKY yet? Can't find any odds on Paddy Power either aat min so done deal?

Not yet mate. We've spoken to Hughes as a back up plan but Quinn met O'Neill yesterday and talks went well apparently- he's happy to join and operate with a limited budget this season before hopefully kicking on next season. He should be appointed today, by all accounts is just dotting the i's and crossing the t's and the club want him in the stands for the game at Wolves on Sunday but it could still collapse. Looks almost certain he's coming though, so very few bookies will accept bets on it at this stage, hopefully be announced this evening.

I'm just anxiously refreshing the sunderland message board constantly waiting for confirmation, feel like a kid at christmas! This will be the biggest appointment we've ever made and having had Bruce in charge, it'll be amazing to have a Sunderland fan in the dugout who actually understands the club and its history. Just hope it happens now!

but o neill is a good manager and sunderland will look a lot better now that the fat manu geordie has been sacked.

Christ I hope that even with a new manager Sunderland are contractually obliged to hang on to Barry Big Bollocks until the end of the season.

We have enough dross strikers already without O Neill taking one look at Bender and sending him packing.

don't worry, we've only got Bendtner, Wickham, Ji and young Ryan Noble, so Bendtner is our best striker by miles, he'll keep him. The only trouble is that paying off Bruce has apparently cost us upwards of Â£3m with some even suggesting Â£6m, if true it might affect our ability to afford someone like Bendtner in the summer, but O'Neill will rate the lad highly I'm sure

I still maintain that he's a quality player for us. We just need to get a goalscorer up front with him! But aye, the second we announce Martin O'Neill as Sunderland manager I'll be on the drink, even if it means leaving work early!

that is good news for sunderland. i can't say i saw any other o'neill side other than that villa team that caused us a lot of trouble (and i did watch some celtic matches when he was in charge but don't really remember it since scottish football is a bit shite

) but it seems he is not only a talented manager but a nice man.

i have a lot of time for sunderland and wouldn't mind seeing them climb a bit on the table

Young Mc Clean might finally get a game. As for billy bender, o neill expects his players to work hard off the ball, so he is fucked, or rather we are, he could be back before christmas.
