Bendtner; The Leg-end

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Did anyone just see Bendtner just give up on that challenge on the edge of the box with the keeper hopelessly out of position?

I don't slate the lad as much as many on here but if he ha done that playing for us I would be absolutely fucking fuming!

I think Barry Bendtner is proving to everyone that Sunderland are above his level......so a decent Championship side may well be Barry's best bet for the future. :barscarf:

He's getting hammered on Twitter for smiling during the minute's applause for Gary Speed. The guy is a wanker.

Shit performance today aside from a nice flick in the build up to our goal. Looked utterly disinterested but knows there's no competition for a place. Hope O'Neill works his magic on him because if he plays this dog shit again I'd send him back and you can pay his fucking wages. Good player but not good enough to mince about and coast through games. Mind we could do with not trying to use him as a target man, he needs it to his feet FFS

I think he would do better as a target man for you, first time i've watched a full game of him playing for sunderland today and he was complete shite, and thats been nice.

He needs to wait on the penalty spot and wait to use his head because he has the touch of a rapist and can't take people on.

I dont know what it is with him tbh, he's obviously a good footballer imo, his flick today for instance was quality. We do try and use him as a lone striker and lump balls up to his head which is daft because the lad is never going to be a target man, just because he's quite tall doesnt mean you hoof it to him, which is similar to when we lad Laslandes replace Quinny and kept doing it. Equally though, if hes going to be the main striker he needs to actually get into the fucking box, he kept standing about outside and drifting onto the wing, get in the fucking area for fucks sake man Bendy :banghead: I wouldnt single the lad out at the minute, he's been shit these last 4 games or so but tbh so has everyone else, theres just a feeling that if he genuinely wants to be at a CL club (whether that be Arsenal or elsewhere) he really should be able to rise above mediocrity and get us points himself, instead of which hes sinking to our level after a good start.

Its certainly becoming obvious that he isnt one to rely on when the chips are down. If O'Neill gets us playing good stuff and we're winning, he'll probably look good again but hes unreliable which is probably the biggest reason why he could never hold down a first team place at a club like Arsenal. Maybe he'll end up somewhere where his team is up there challenging for and winning titles every year but who struggle a bit in the CL, someone like Olympiakos or Galatasaray, that might keep his motivation up. We just need to actually give him a strike partner in January and assess it again then but currently he really is on a dreadful run of form, looks like he considers himself above playing for us and looks like he cant be arsed, O'Neill has a big job getting him to perform properly- partly through motivation and partly through utilising him properly not booting it forwards to him every time

Play to your strengths Bender! He can head the ball, so why doesn't he get in the box? Keeps dropping deep and slows down all of Sunderland's play.

Keep up the good work Agent Bender!

Yes, I saw that. He was shocking today. No desire. Considering the size of the lad he needs to be in the box as a target man but he spent most of the game on the right wing.

I was starting to think that I'd rather of kept him this season and sent Chamakh out on loan but based on what I saw this afternoon I think I'd rather not.

His headings poor- he's got a good first touch and he's intelligent with the ball to feet, he needs to get in the middle and we need to find him on the ground. As for agent Bender, well, he cant play against you so all he'll do is prevent us from getting anything off the likes of Man Utd, City, Liverpool, Chelsea and dare I say it Spurs, he's a pretty shit agent at the minute

His heading is hit and miss from what I've seen of him. He had a good chance today with his head which seemed to come off the wrong part and ended up going miles away from the target. He does do the occasional good flick on with his head like, but whilst if he's in the middle and Larsson has it on the left, it can be worth whipping it in for him, I think in terms of building up play you get more success by giving it to his feet where he really can be effective, rather than lumping it up hoping he'll get the header right. Another criticism of his heading doesnt actually relate to his ability with his head, more with the fact that if we lump it forwards 10 times for his head, we're lucky if he wins 2 of them
